"Whoa, Larry, slow down there, man."
Lawrence simply waved Adam off and threw back another shot, then pounded the glass down on the bar, resulting in a loud clamor.
"I- I'm fine. Maybe youuu should slow down, maaan," Lawrence protested and poked Adam in the chest with his index finger, prompting a wide grin and laugh from the younger male.
"Okay, just take it easy," Adam warned.
"I don't neeed to take it eeeasy. I can out drink you any n-night of the week!" Lawrence challenged. He swung his arms out to his sides, nearly hitting a waitress who seemed less than enthused at the drunk asshole about to fall off his stool. Adam shot her an apologetic glance only to earn a scoff and an eye roll.
"Tell you what, chief. You can drink me under the table another night. How 'bout that?"
Lawrence paused, then gave Adam a glance from the corner of his eye.
"…you'd like that wouldn't you?"
Adam's cheeks turned pink as the bartender looked in their direction at the comment, but he quickly shrugged it off. "Okay, champ. I think it's about time we got you home."
Adam stood in the doorway of the bedroom the next day around noon. "How you feelin'?" His tone was mercilessly loud.
Lawrence woke with a jerk and quickly held his palm to his forehead and ran his fingers through his ragged hair, a few grunts and expletives making their way from his mouth as his head pounded and throbbed.
"Been better," he managed to get out as he perched himself upright on the bed. He knew he must have looked a mess, shirt wrinkled and unbuttoned, pale hair sticking in different directions, but he didn't care. His appearance couldn't possibly hold a candle to how he felt physically. Adam held in a chortle at the sight of him.
"Yeah, I'll bet," Adam muttered as he looked to the ground and cupped a hand over his mouth, trying to hide his smirk. Clearing his throat he added, "Listen, I gotta get going. But there's a Bloody Mary and some pancakes on the counter. Surefire cure."
Wincing, Lawrence held an arm to his gut at the thought, but nodded his head at Adam in gratitude. Through clenched teeth, he managed a forced "thanks."
"Okay, feel better, man. Drink some O.J. or somethin'," Adam advised as he turned to leave, again prompting a simple wave of the hand from the older of the two. "See ya tonight."
Lawrence laid back down to rest but his eyes widened as he quickly leapt from the bed to head for the bathroom where only remnants of last night's dinner lay ahead. He brushed past Adam, who, at this point, did not make the attempt to hide his laughter.
"I told you you couldn't keep up with me, old man!" Adam shouted through the apartment, his chuckles hardly masking the sound of sickened groans from the next room. He left and shut the front door with a less than necessary slam that made Lawrence grimace.
