Author's Note: This fanfiction series will take the world of PMMM and insert the heroines of Tokyo Mew Mew in a darker version of magical girlism. All of the girl's ages are advanced, placing them in high school where their powers have faded due to inactivity in Earth's threat levels. Will our intrepid girls be able to survive in the far darker world of Madoka's Japan? Of course, I already know the answer. You'll just have to read and wait and see, won't you?
The sunset case a golden glow on Minato City, Tokyo.
The buildings, a mass cluster of skyscrapers, scratching at the red and purple sky, shimmered, elegant and otherworldy in the dying light.
On top of Tokyo Tower's topmost observation deck sat a small, white and red creature. A large, fox-like tail swished back and forth, sweeping across the open air like a pendulum. It yawned and turned, blinking eerie amber eyes taking in the landscape.
Large, rabbit shaped ears twitched, causing a set of tassel-like appendages to sway, in time with its tail. Golden bells dangled from their ends, ringing softly as it swayed. A gentle tune rumbled from its mouth, which remained still, caught in a smirk that tugged more on the left side than the right. "I see," it mused, mouth unmoving. "There are already five girls here with abilities much like those in Mitakihara. They just need to be…unlocked." It's tail twitched faster, either with eagerness or malice.
Silently, the creature leaped down onto the floor, slowly phasing through the ground to free fall, tumbling through the air until it lighted on a bush. It scampered down onto the ground and as a car passed, winked out of existence.
Across Minato City, in a quiet suburb, a girl with pink hair shifted from her bathroom to room, hair damp from her long bath. She pulled it back into a ponytail, shrugging into a nightshirt as she crept into bed. She curled up much like a cat, an old habit that had never left her, and shut her eyes, falling quickly into a deep sleep.
The creature winked into existence there hours later, hovering over the girl in her sleep. Awaken, girl, it thought, blinking slowly. You have a job to do. The girl turned over, trembling as nightmares invaded her dreams. Allow me to let you see what is yet to come. An… interation, per se.
The dream came quickly, harsh and true.
Wings, large as Tokyo Tower, filled with static and shadow, absored all, taking life, taking love, taking in every positive emotion and transforming it into something intrinsically other, morphing them. Sickening. Gears. Tumbling through the sky. Hourglass. No hope.
No survival.
The creature cut the dream there, and leaned down, nuzzling the girl's cheek. Will you survive? It asked. Well… I hope so. I need your energy after all. It kissed her cheek, and winked out of existence once more. Now, time to wake up. You'll be late for school.
Gasping, Ichigo Momomiya woke, body covered in a cold sweat. "Someone…" she paused, looking around. She was confused, head fuzzy from her dreams. Her mother called from downstairs, and her clock's number glowed bright red: 7:01 a.m. Ichigo righted herself, sliding from beneath her sheets and making her way to the bathroom.
She didn't even notice the faint paw prints on her pillow, made from impossibly light feet.
Someone was calling my name.
