Holiday Inn, Iowa
She stood there watching him through the peep hole and then finally she realized she had enough she opened the door and went out in the hall it was now or never.
"Josh." She said.
He turned and looked at her. "You wanna come in?"
"Yeah" she said.
She went in after he opened the door for both of them and for the first time in their relationship she didn't dance around what she wanted to say she just came out and said it.
"Why did you come to Germany, Josh?"
"I came because I needed to know you were all right." He said.
"That's it?" she exclaimed.
"It's not that simple Donna." He ran his fingers through his hair he need to figure out what he was going to say. He needed to not fumble his words he wasn't sure how many more chances he would have to make things right between them.
"For the past eight years you have always been with me through it all, and Germany was the first time where I knew I needed to be with you. Somewhere in the past 8 years I realized when something bad happened to me the person I wanted by my side was you and I only wanted to see if I could be that for you, a constant through all the chaos. I need to ask you something now." He moved closer to her closing in some of the space between them. "Why did you want to see me before your surgery and not Colin?"
She began to speak "Colin didn't mean anything Josh he was just comfort. I was alone in this strange place and he was there charming me every step of the way but you were always there in the back of my mind…you have always been in the back of my mind for the past 8 years. I asked for you because I needed to know that you were with me all the way to the end if that was going to be it for me. I….I didn't leave you Josh, I left the White House not you and us not working together is for the best."
"Why, do you think it's for the best?" He asked.
"Because you can find the real thing in Santos and we can find the real thing in each other." She whispered.
"Does this mean you want to go on a date?" He asked smiling.
"No, this mean's I want to go on dates. Because you might have a sense about who would make a great President but I have a sense about men. She smiled.
"No you don't…but maybe this time you do." He laughed his forehead now touching hers.
