So, this is an alternate ending to one of my favorite episodes, Cold Hearted (Season 1 Episode 20)
I opened my eyes, the ceiling was blinding white and I could hear the whirl of machines in the background. Not again, I was in a hospital I just knew it. I opened my eyes a little more.
"Finally, I was starting to get worried." Robin murmured.
"What happened?"
"That's the concussion talking... you were running from a hospital in Boston to one in Seattle, to get a heart to a girl desperately in need of the way, Vandal Savage attacked you. You made it through ok, you stopped and fought him, when you got to the hospital someone told you, you didn't make it in time, you gave him the heart, he took the heart inside, after that some doctors came and asked you where the heart was, you realized you had been conned and it was all a set up for Count Vertigo to become king of Vlateva. You stopped them and got the heart to the right doctors then blacked out." Rob had a grim look on his face.
"The girls ok, right?"
Robin frowned "You got them the heart in time but the Queen coded on the table."
"What... about the Count? He can't be King, can he?" Dread pooled through me, it was all my fault if only I had been faster.
"No, thank god he's not, they charged him with attempted murder and he's on his way back to Vlateva."
Relief fled through me but I still felt guilty. "Well, at least that's good news." Robin still looked grim, "What's wrong?" I ask him.
"KF...There's something I need to tell you, your uncle thought it would be better coming from me?" He looked at the ground and took a deep breath. "When you were running to get the heart...uhhhm... well, you kind of ran past your limits and well...sort of blew up your heart."
"What?" I said honestly not knowing how to respond. "Well...then how am I... you know alive?"
"... That's the hard part...you needed a heart and conveniently enough the heart that was meant for the girl was a match for you." I just stared at him for a second "Wally... you ok?"
"No..." I whispered to no one but myself "No, no this can't be happening, it's all my fault."
"No, it's not, and don't you ever say that again." I could tell that behind his mask his eyes were hard and serious.
"But it is my fault... if I had run a little faster, trained a bit more. Rob, I was mad I didn't get to be on the League Team team up. I didn't take it seriously enough, I showed off in that fight. If I had just run by I could have gotten here faster, and that little girl would be alive."
"There was nothing you could have done... Wally, I know how this kind of guilt can eat at you, it can send you tumbling down a deep dark hole and once you're there it's a long way back up... so yah Wally you might have been able to save her and you might not have, there is no point in figuring out who's to blame."
"But...what do I do now?"
"You train harder. Make yourself better and next time you save her, her death saved your life. Don't waste it...Now get some sleep."
I wasn't sure if he was right, maybe I could have done something more, or maybe she would have died anyway, but he was right about one thing. That little girl saved my life and I can't just waste it.
After that, I fell into a deep hard sleep.
I really hope you liked it. The first time I watched it, when Wally woke up in that hospital bed and The Count confronted him, then Wally tried to get up I winced I had thought he had had a heart attack or something, frankly I was a little disappointed when the episode ended all tied up in a neat bow, so I wrote this alternate ending. Pleases comment on what you though positive or negative, just make sure it's constructive. Also, I'm starting to run out of ideas so tell me what you want me to write next. I try to write things that other people don't usually think to write, so everything's on the table so to speak. Thanks again for reading!
