COVERSATIONS IN THE A.M.

Arthur was leaning against the side of the bed in his best friend's dorm, with a glass of whiskey in hand. You see, Arthur Pendragon was one of the richest and youngest bachelors in the whole of Britain. So, for him to be in a common university dormitory would be unheard of. But here he was sitting across from his friend, Merlin, who had a light beer in hand. Arthur was buzzing right then, not only from the alcohol. But not having to be Arthur Pendragon; Uther Pendragon's son, the most wanted guy in Britain and the future CEO of Camelot Corps.

He was Arthur. Feeling like this never lasted long. Not looking at the clock above Merlin's head, knowing that it was broken. He stood up and looked outside the window above Merlin's bed that looked over the campus courtyard. He looked down to the centre of the courtyard where a group of drunk friends stood, jumping on and shoving each other in celebrations of final exams being over.

Arthur then began backtracking his life: from starting at University with Merlin, to Merlin and him getting into the same University. To the long and sleepless hours trying of trying to pick up his academic level to go to a University that would help Merlin flourish in academics and let him continue playing high-level football. Then high school graduation, bullies, girls, football games, science, maths and debating competitions. Right up to when he first met Merlin in primary school.

Arthur then realised that he didn't remember much before Merlin came into his life. Of course, he remembered meeting Morgana for the first time. His mother died and his Farther all but telling him that he's going to take over the company, but that's about it. Arthur moves back down to sit next to Merlin and waste away the rest of the night.

Hours had past and more alcohol was consumed until they sat there together in silence with the little rays of sun starting to be visible above the building roofs. "I don't want to lose you" Merlin said looking down at where their feet were centimetres away from touching. Arthur looked up at his friend puzzled where he was coming from. Merlin then lifted his eyes to look at him through his lashes keeping his head tilted down. Arthur then understood, pushing himself up to sit next to Merlin.

When he sat down comfortably he turned to look at his friend, who was now looking at where their knees were touching. Arthur took two of his fingers and thumb and placed them on his friend's chin, forcing him to look at Arthur. Arthur was expecting to see the passionate Merlin he knew. What he did see was clouded ocean eyes with worry and doubt shining heavy. Arthur released his chin and shifted closer until they were shoulder to shoulder leaning his head oh Merlins shoulder, he whispered "You never will, idiot".
