Family – tobyMac
Arrows flying
Into silence
Broken pieces
Lyin' around
Where it went down
Arthur was breaking; he could feel it. He could barely allow himself to believe that his little brother was fighting him. Was independence really so bloody important? Didn't Alfred realize that all it would bring was loneliness? Is that what the boy really wanted?
Water risin'
Back to silence
Quietly crying
Wondering how
And look at us now
Arthur shook with a mixture of emotions: worry, agony, anger, and fear. He was worried about Alfred. Didn't the boy know that independence was a huge responsibility? How could Arthur live with it if his little brother died trying to be strong?
Agony and pain ripped through Arthur's torn heart like a double-bladed knife. If Alfred left, who else was there? His little brother was the most important thing to him. What kind of a big brother lets his little sibling wade into danger?
Arthur was also angry. He had sacrificed years of his life to protect Alfred and help the boy grow up, and how did the little twat repay him? By starting a war and treating Arthur's care as nothing.
But deep down, what Arthur felt the most was fear. Fear of losing his little brother. The fear that Alfred didn't need or want him anymore. The fear of what would happen to Alfred if he embarked on the dangerous path.
But mostly, Arthur was afraid of being alone.
Are we too far apart?
Two worlds among the stars
You're gonna take a piece of my heart
If you leave
So it's two separate ways
Or am I too late to say
I wanna fight for what we got
'Cause I believe
In family
As tears streamed down his face, Arthur tightened his grip on his musket and pulled himself to his full height. He would fight for family. And if he failed, it would be known that he fought to save his little brother.
And so the battle continued.
