"Davis is in looove; Davis is in looove!" June yelled at her brother. He
was sitting outside on the deck, watching the sun set over Tokyo. The
fading light illuminated the skyscrapers all around him, creating a myriad of
bright colors. In the center of this kaleidoscope was Davis, sighing at the
sky.
"Where is he?" he wondered, idly toying with his goggles. Davis had invited
Ken over after dinner, and he had yet to arrive. His mother was getting
anxious, and soon she'd come out, demanding to know where his friend was.
"Maybe this is all too fast," he thought glumly. Change had never came
easily to any of the digidestined, and there had surely been enough of it
in the past two weeks to make anyone's head spin. From the end of Ken's
reign as the digimon Kaiser, to his return to the real world, to the shaky
friendship Davis was trying so hard to foster between them... Davis wouldn't
blame Ken for backing out. He knew he should try and slow things down, to
give Ken some time to get used to the idea of them being anything but bitter
enemies. Rushing this wasn't very smart; it would probably backfire, just like
so many other things in Davis' life.
But just as Ken needed time, Davis needed speed. Patience was definitely not
one of his key virtues. As a leader, he was prone to quick and decisive
action, not painstaking strategy. Things needed to be immediate for him, or
else it was torture.
And waiting for Ken to come around had been just that. Davis wasn't sure
what it was that he felt for Ken, just that he had never experienced it
before with anyone. It controlled him, propelling his every move. It was
almost like the love he thought he had for Kari, but... different. Stronger,
somehow. As if those emotions had been just shadows. Whatever it was, it was
making waiting unbearable.
Was June right? Was this phantom emotion that was making him try so hard to
befriend Ken really love? At first, he almost laughed the idea away. He was
a brave leader, and leaders weren't gay. But then the sight of Tai and Matt,
so happy together, came to him. Tai was his idol; he was the one person
Davis strove to emulate. So, if he could love Matt, who was to say that
Davis couldn't be falling for Ken?
"Sorry I'm late," Davis heard from behind him. He spun around, and saw Ken
slip out next to him onto the terrace. The last sunbeams danced through
his blue hair, playing with it. Davis was tempted to reach out, and do the
same.
Ken blushed, as if he could read the truth behind Davis' dreamy expression.
"Well, um... I just, erm... w-wanted to..." Davis' eyes pleaded with Ken
to go on.
However, instead of continuing, Ken closed his eyes, and brought his face
to within millimeters of Davis. He paused, as if gathering the courage
to continue. Shocked, Davis didn't move a muscle to separate the two of
them. Timidly, Ken kissed him. Davis' lips were warm and deliciously soft.
They gave Ken the courage to slip his tongue into his mouth. He drew back,
though, as an electric current passed between them.
"And that's all I wanted to do." Ken muttered. He stared at the ground,
mortified.
When he looked up, Davis was beaming at him. "What took you so long?" he
laughed, before pulling him in for another kiss.
