I'm in the unsinkable Titanic after all, right?
I was reading my book in my cabin then I heard first the large bang, I believed the ship had hit something. I didn't worry; I'm in the unsinkable Titanic after all, right?
I walked slowly out of my cabin, cabin no. D-56, as I walked out, I met a nice couple who were walking to the top deck to ask what was going on, we stopped and started chatting. They asked me my name, I replied with "Oh, My name is Lawrence Beesley. Wha…" I was cut off midsentence because of a larger bang. Everything went silent.
The steward told me to keep calm because everything was under control, but I could hear worry in his voice. I had no idea what was going on, but then the panicking started. People pushing, running, screaming, and shouting, everything you could imagine at a disaster scene. I start to regret going on holiday. Some people started to shout and scream at me to get a move on rather than just stare at all the chaos.
I went to A-deck where people were getting onto the life boats, there were piles of people going onto just one lifeboat, I wasn't sure it would have held that much, I thought it would've just sank or maybe people would have fallen out. There was too much commotion so I just went back to my cabin.
Back in my cabin I grabbed some books and shoved them into my pockets, and then I made my way up to A-deck. It seemed worse than last time, but then someone called me over to get onto boat 13 so that is what I did. The Titanic, the unsinkable ship was doing exactly the opposite to what they had said, it was sinking.
Boat 13 had just hit the water, but they were unable to cut the ropes. We were in the path of boat 15 which was descending at a worrying rate; if someone hadn't halted it we would have been squashed and drowned underneath it. They finally cut away the ropes and we were able to drift away from the ship. I was finally able to assure myself that I was going to survive, unless another disaster struck like the capsizing of the ship we were in, which was pretty possible since there were about 64 people on board.
My eyes were fixed on the Titanic which was sinking; it was becoming an underwater graveyard. The lights on the Titanic were flickering then they went out. I felt sorry for all those which were to die on board the Titanic and how I'm just sitting here in this boat, surviving this wreck.
The ship was gone, I wasn't sure whether this just happened but it did and the ship was no longer above water. After a while our boat, boat 13 was tied up next to the Carpathia the ship which rescued us, all of us on boat 13 boarded it. I was relieved to feel safe again.
