AN: This is just a one shot I came up with while writing a creative writing essay. Short and . . . pointless.

The only thing I know for sure in this world is you never truly know a person. People are safes, locking away their deepest emotions with no chance of being exposed. Family members are individual islands which drift farther apart each day. Best friends know so little about each other it's scary. They'll tell one thing while meaning another but still preying that someone, anyone, can, if not love, at least understand them. These lost souls, doomed to a solitary life, wish there was one person who could be the key which would unlock them.

Perhaps the most locked of all was none other than thirteen year old Wallabee Beatles, the boy who always seemed to be the last to know, the boy who always found himself on the outside looking in. The boy who pushed the girl of his dreams away, while wishing that somehow she'd realize what he meant. He could never tell Kuki Sanban that he was head over heals, crazy in love with her. Not just for fear of rejection.

He didn't want her to see what he truly was. A loser. She deserved so much more than him, yet he couldn't find a way of making himself better. He tried. He wished he could be those guys you see on romantic comedies: cute and funny and sensitive and . . . everything he wasn't.

She smiled at him from across the room. A nervous, yet sweet smile. She was always so genuine. The perfect girl who deserved the perfect guy. Silently she grabbed his shaking hand. The two sat side by side, ready for what was to come. What that was, they weren't quiet sure.

Fear penetrated the tough boy's soul. This wasn't a dream. They truly were being decommissioned. And there was nothing they could do to stop it. What happened would happen. He'd forget all the missions, his friends.

The love of his life.

This was his last chance. He had to say something, anything. Even if she deserved more, he couldn't let her slip away. Not now.

"Kuki," He squeezed her hand.

She turned to him, tears outlining her black lash lined violet eyes. She stared at him, wordless. Perhaps she had no words left.

"I . . ." He stuttered, losing himself. Time ticked away. "I know you deserve better than me and . . ."

She silenced him. "No Wally," She said simply. "I don't deserve better. Why do you have to be down on yourself?"

The question stumped him. What did she mean?

She smiled weakly. "This isn't the end, Wally. I know we're going to see each other eventually."

"But . . ."

She silenced him with a deep, heartfelt kiss.

Maybe he wasn't so alone after all.
