Interview
"Sit down William", Steven looks at William. The boy isn't more than seventeen. He's young. He's strong, dark eyes and dark skin, the boy barely breaths. William struggles to get out of the chains attached to the floor of what use to be a cafeteria. It took six men to hold him down, two died doing it. He pulls against the chains again and again. There's no other choice he sees.
Steven sits a few feet away in a wooden chair. He's patient, he has time. "I suggest you take a seat," William looks up at him; he doesn't see Steven's face, just his eyes, there almost yellow. William sits down on the floor.
"That's better," Steven gets more comfortable, he lights a cigarette. William looks at the pack. Steven throws the pack and the light and William lights up. William throws them back. "What happen William?"
"What do you mean?" William is looking at his chains.
"How did you do it?"
"Do what?"
"Kill those men?" Steven waits for an answer.
William looks up and smiles, "Fast".
"You're not going to jail William. You're not making it there. You know that right?"
William thinks it over for a second "I guess so."
"That doesn't scare you?" Steven doesn't blink. He knows who the kid is.
"Sure, but its at the bottom of the list right now."
"What do you mean?"
"We all die sometime, why not today?"
"How old are you?"
"Seventeen… I think."
"Do you know how many men you killed earlier today?"
William almost laughs, "I lost count."
"Thirty- six. The ballpark was full of people, security-"
"Him," William looks up.
"Who?" Steven knows who.
"The black guy."
"You mean the president."
"Yeah… the black guy,"
Stevens unsure what to think, the men outside the door gave him five minutes to find out how he did it, who he was hired by. At this point, if he could find out anything he would be lucky, "Who told you to do this?"
William smiles, "Now we're having fun. You know what the funny thing is?"
"What's that William?"
"Anybody that really mattered, anybody who was truly a good man, you know what they all have in common?"
"What?"
"As many people that may think there good, just as many want them dead."
"What do you think about him? Did he deserve to die?"
"Like I said before, we all die, why not today?"
"That man still had a lot to do before he died."
"Not as much as he thought."
Steven looks at William. The boy doesn't blink. He knows the boy won't break, "How did you do it?"
"That's an easy one."
"How?"
"You carry a gun, right?"
"How'd you know that?" Steven blinks.
"On your belt it's a little warn on the side. You left your gun outside, right?"
Steven bits his lip for half a second, "Yeah, I do carry a gun."
"What do they teach you to do after you shoot someone, what do you do?"
"Confirm the kill."
"That's your problem."
"What do you mean?"
"When I pull the trigger, my first shots my last."
Steven gets up from his chair, he's done, "Thank you for your help William." Steven starts to head towards the door.
William is amused, "How long I got?"
Steven doesn't look back, "Thirty seconds, give or take", he opens the door and two men walk in as he walks out and before Steven hears the door slam behind him two gun shots ring out.
