lostmoonchild: Okay, this was written sometime during the school year (I swear, boredom during math results in weird stuff) so I have no idea why I'm posting this after school's out (probably because somebody out there is in school still and they need something to read for math). Anyway... I don't own YYH or anything else.

Math Class Thoughts

Keiko sighed a little as she put her books away. Math class wasn't over yet but she was done with her homework. "Hey, Keiko, where's Yusuke?" Somebody whispered.

'Sick." Keiko lied. If she told the truth, hello mental hospital.

"With what?"

"Flu."

"Oh."
Here or on a mission, Keiko was always covering for him. Right now, he was on a mission somewhere in the Makai. From what he told her, it was important. Then again, all his missions were important.

If somebody had told her that Yusuke would be fighting demons and she'd be lying for him… well, part of that she would believe. The rest of it, probably not. Unless that person meant those internal demons everybody seemed to have. Then maybe she might have.

Yusuke said once on a date she had to watch her back. That demons would go after her to get to him. When she asked why, Yusuke looked surprised. "Because you're my girl." Yusuke had answered.

His girl. Yusuke had called her his girl. That made Yusuke her guy. She told him that before he left. All Yusuke did was grin and say, "Damn right. Just so you know, I'll beat the hell out of whoever says that you called him yours. Then I'll remind you who's girl you are."

Possessive yet willing to give her comments that sounded so much like a threat to anybody who wasn't familiar with them. For some reason, that comforted Keiko more than anything. Just having Yusuke say stuff in that tone made her feel safe and like she was the only woman on Earth.

"Kazuma's not here either."

"Shizuru needed him at home."
"Oh," a pause. "For what?"

"I don't know."

Keiko closed her eyes and pictured Yusuke's smile. He would probably be smiling when he and his friends came home again. If he wasn't too tired or badly injured, he would probably take her out for ice cream. Then he'd playfully get ice cream on her nose and when he kissed her afterwards, lick the ice cream away.

She opened her eyes and looked at the white gold band around her left ring finger, a sign they promised one another to the other. Yusuke had given it to her, promising when they graduated they would get married. Joking, Keiko asked if he was planning on dying before they had a chance to be married. Playfully spinning her around, Yusuke answered that Death couldn't stop him from marrying his girl.

When the bell rang, Keiko put her books in her locker and went outside. When she got outside, she heard Yusuke shouting for her. With a grin like her match and total opposite's grin, Keiko ran towards him and jumped into his loving arms, protected once again from the world.

There, she was determined to stay for as long as she could.

lostmoonchild: Again, this was a product of boredom during math class so read and review, flames are accepted.
