George was getting ready for the day fixing his hair in front of what appeared to be a mirror. When he finished he reached towards the mirror and shook his hand, "Thanks Fred."
Grinning, his twin replied, "No problem Georgie."
George sat up. He was in the Burrow, not his flat above the shop. It was the middle of the night. "Freddie, Freddie ...I just got a great idea from this dream I had..."
He looked over at the bed opposite his. Then it hit him. Again. A hot dagger in his heart, twisting before it was removed and thrust in again. Fred was killed almost six weeks ago in the Battle of Hogwarts. Dead. Forever. Never again to be his roommate. Never again to help run their joke shop. Never again to prank someone. Never again... He put his head in his hands but he didn't cry. The tears stopped weeks ago.
Moments, hours, or minutes later after he pain had dulled somewhat and George realized that he was starving. He couldn't remember the last time he'd had a real meal. He groaned then crept downstairs to the kitchen. He found the plates mum had saved for him over the last three days. George ate quickly then stretched out on the couch in the sitting room his legs dangling over the armrest.
A few hours later someone was shaking him and he woke with a start. He exhaled it wasn't his mother. It was Hermione. She didn't say anything but he understood the look she gave him - if he didn't want his mum to catch him he needed to go upstairs now.
George heard the door open he didn't look up he knew who it was the only person who knew that George really hadn't magicked his door shut Percy. Percy had been George's only contact with the rest of the world since the funeral. Percy had been making sure George ate periodically. Percy had told George that Ginny was still fiercely in love with Harry but still very angry for leaving her. Percy had told George that Harry is staying with Andromeda Tonks' house helping take care of his godson Teddy and that Harry wrote Ginny at least once a day. Percy had told George that Ron and Hermione were now together and that to stave off nightmares, Hermione had been sneaking into Ron's room every night and everyone knew it except the parents. Most recently, Percy had told George that Ron and Hermione had gone to Australia to find Hermione's parents and get their memories back.
So when Percy came in George knew what his brother would say. "They're back" George said.
"Yes and they found her parents and are in the process of moving back to England. Ron won't say anything but he's terrified that Hermione'll leave the burrow once her parents move back. Ginny is still ignoring Harry but I think she's about to give up and forgive him."
Percy paused not sure how to proceed so George spoke, "Mum knows I've been downstairs."
Percy nodded, "Yes and she's upset you haven't been down to join the family."
"And do what Percy?! I don't know who I am anymore. Half of me is missing." George paused then continued quietly, "How am I supposed to move on when every time I look in a mirror is see Fred? or every time I speak it's his voice too? or when I manage to sleep Fred's in every dream I have?"
