It was that time of the month again, where Ren and Kai competed to see who was the best at cooking. When Kai and Ren were younger and went to school together, the pair spent time together at each other's homes learning how to cook.
After they reconciled, they decided to start cooking together again for the fun of it. The fun ended up turning into a competition, which the two didn't mind at all. Sometimes Kai would win, and other times Ren would win. It all depended on what the other did to sabotage their concentration.
"Hey Kai…" Ren says. He's leaning back against the counter next to Kai, watching him as he washes vegetables.
The other blinks and glances over. "What?"
With a grin on his face, Ren picks up a potato and says, "These vegetables speak to me Kai," He studies it, smiling. "This one tells me you should use it in your dish." Putting it down, the male picks up an onion. "This one tells me you shouldn't use too much, otherwise it'll taste horrible."
Kai reaches over and snatches the onion out of Ren's hand. "There's no such thing as too much onion." He goes back to washing the vegetables, trying to ignore his friend. Ren chuckles and plucks a carrot out of the bowl. "What's that? Oh, the carrot tells me you might need more carrot than you think."
He glares at Ren for a few seconds then goes back to what he's doing. He can't let himself get distracted. I'm hoping that thing about talking with vegetables is a side effect of using Psyqualia too much, he thinks.
A little after Kai's cut up the vegetables, his dish almost complete, Ren leaves his space again. He stands next to Kai again. "Kaaaiiiii, those carrots are telling me you need to add more of them in there."
Kai grunts before answering. "Ren. Leave me alone and go back to cooking your own dish. Otherwise I'll beat you like I did last time."
Ren smirks. "That's no way to be about it! Besides, Psyqualia tells me I'm going to win."
Kai sets the stirring spoon down and glares at Ren for a solid minute. "…This isn't Vanguard. You're not going to win." The other shoots him a look of disappointment before going back to his station to finish, hoping he'll be able to prove Kai wrong.
Later on, the meals are ready for Tetsu to judge. Tetsu starts off with Ren's. "Ren this tastes good, as always." The teen smirked, feeling he had the win. Next up was Kai's dish. After finishing his plate, he smiles. "I think it's clear who the winner is here. It's Kai." Kai smiles, all while Ren frowns in disbelief.
"Don't worry Ren, maybe next time." Tetsu reassures him. "Funny, that's what you said last time. Kai," He says. "Next time I'll win. I'll get my revenge." Kai laughs. "We'll see. Hopefully you don't set off the smoke alarms."
"I did that when we were younger," he cries out. "I don't do that anymore!" Ignoring him, Kai made himself a plate and started eating. "Are you going to eat? Or am I going to have to eat your portion too?"
"Fine, fine I'll eat." Ren makes himself a plate as well, sitting across from Kai, with a smile. There'll be a next time, and I'll win, he tells himself, biting into his food. He hopes the next cook off will be even better.
