The Coin Toss

My Eng 105 professor required us to write a fanfic IN 20 MINUTES and to change the ending of the story. Naturally, I picked JAG. Here is my fanfic; it's short and sweet and to the point! Don't like it? Then don't read.

Fan Fiction: "JAG" television show

After 9 years of dancing around their relationship, Navy Lieutenant Commander Harmon "Harm" Rabb and Marine Lieutenant Colonel Sarah "Mac" Mackenzie finally confessed their love for one another and decided to get married. Their problem? Their commanding officer, Major General Gordon Cresswell, had offered each of them promotions in different duty stations: Harm was assigned to the JAG London office where he would finally be promoted to Captain, while Mac was assigned to JAG San Diego where she would also be promoted. Neither one of them wanted to leave Washington D.C., the place they had called home for so many years, but they both understood that if they stayed, they would most likely lose all chances for another promotion. In the fairest way possible of deciding who would give up their career, they held a coin toss.

They and all of their friends gathered at McMurphy's Tavern. Harm and Mac looked around the room at all of the friends that they didn't want to leave behind. As Lieutenant Commander Roberts handed Harm the JAG commission coin, Mac squeezed his arm.

Harm tossed the coin into the air. It went higher and higher until it appeared to freeze mid-air….

…The room was so silent you could hear a pin drop (or in this case, a coin.) Everyone stared upwards, hoping that maybe it would land on its side, so that neither officer would have to give up their commission.

And suddenly, the coin fell to the ground, behind a barstool. Mac, who was closest, dove behind the stool and held the coin in her palm. It was heads up… which meant she would have to give up her commission. For a brief second, she debated about flipping over the coin and forcing Harm to give up his commission, but she realized that he won, fair and square. Besides, she would need to give up her career in order for her and Harm to have a family.

She stood up and showed the coin to all of their friends. "Well, you won sailor."

Harm smiled and replied, "As much as we loved living here in D.C., we're ready to start a new adventure. Everyone, come visit us in London."
They walked out of the tavern, awaiting their next adventure.
