and it hurts because she's been in love with him long before she knew how to spell, before she knew the significance of the four letter word.
all she really knows is that she doesn't want him to leave because leaving means he won't be there for her anymore, and the thought makes her want to scream and cry and throw things, and hurt him the way he's hurting her (she's later sorted into slytherin, where she belongs).
she watches him board the hogwarts express, her blue cotton dress smudged with dirt, salty tears painting her face a vibrant red.
and she thinks that maybe she hates him, as well. because love and hate go hand-in-hand.
