Outside the Lines

Rated G

Whitney/Chloe

Minor spoilers for the first season

Summary: Chloe teaches Whitney that it's ok to color outside of the lines.

Side note: A/U, everybody

"Do you have a red?" Chloe asked the blonde guy sitting next to her. He turned to hand her a crayon and she saw that it was Whitney.

"You should be really proud of Lana for putting all this together. The Metropolis orphanages are really sad this time of year. These homemade cards should make their Christmas." She said, free-handing a Christmas tree.

"I'm proud of everyone who's taking part in this. I wish everyone would do good all the year instead of just around this time of the year though." Whitney replied, grabbing a stencil of the table.

"I guess when you've been through what you've been through; this doesn't seem like much, does it?" Chloe said, watching him trace a star onto his card.

"I didn't do anything spectacular. I'm just glad we're all pitching in."

"You never colored outside the lines when you were little, did you?" Chloe asked, knowing that he would sense the underlying question.

"Everything has a place. One mistake or misstep and everything is ruined. That's just.the society I was brought up by." He replied, knowing that answered her guarded question.

Chloe shook Whitney's arm, causing the yellow to move outside the dark black line he had drawn.

"Hey!" He cried, reaching to crumple the fairly-empty piece of paper up.

"Color outside the lines, Whitney. Be daring." Chloe said, putting her hand on his arm.

"Maybe this doesn't look so bad after all," Whitney said. Chloe knew he wasn't talking about the card by the way he was looking at her and by the way his forehead crinkled in anticipation as he covered her hand with his.

"No.it doesn't," Chloe grinned, moving the stencil out of his reach and grabbing the yellow from him.

"Chloe!" He cried again, causing her to laugh the laugh he loved.
