AI: Simply put, the tumblr blog 'Imagine Kagerou Project' is amazing. I have tried to write other fanfics based on their posts, but I could never manage to finish them. Yet when a certain 'prompt' appeared on my dashboard, I knew that I had to write it.
(I didn't know if this was meant to be before or after the Mekakushi Dan, but I chose the time before Shintaro went outside because I don't think he would do this after meeting the others. Sorry if this isn't when it was meant to take place.)
Shintaro: (DISCLAIMER) AI doesn't own Kagerou Project or any of its characters or songs.
"…it's done."
Despite knowing that this was her cue to come out of the folder in which she had hid, Ene stubbornly did not move. She heard a sigh filter through the speakers. A moment later, she yelped in surprise as the ominous being known as the cursor took a hold of the collar of her blue jacket and forcefully dragged her onto the desktop.
"I see your feelings still haven't changed."
Ene refused to meet the male's eyes. "Of course," she snapped, uncharacteristically glaring to the side. "It's stupid and always will be. When will you realize that, you idiot of a Master?"
There was a laugh, but there was no emotion behind it.. "If I ever do, it'll be too late." Shintaro opened a file and maximized it, displaying its contents to the cyber being. "I just applied the finishing touches," he informed her. "I figured that it would only be right to tell you before I ran the program."
At this, Ene pushed her pride away and turned to face Shintaro. "Don't you dare, you bastard!" she screamed, pain in her eyes. "You don't know just how bad the consequences are! Being a mere virus, cursed to never die- it's not something I wanted or would ever want for myself- for anyone- and definitely not you!"
"I don't care."
"I care!" Her tone turned desperate. "Please- you don't have to do this," she begged. "For both of our sakes, delete that file, get rid of your notes- just let things stay the way they are! Do you realize what you're giving up?!"
Shintaro smiled hollowly. "Nothing I don't want to give up. And it's not as if I'm going to kill myself, no matter how much I may want to." He paused. "At least… at least I'll be able to save someone, someone more worthy."
"Please…"
"I'm sorry, Takane."
Click.
As Ene felt herself changing, she forced back a sob. "Why, Shintaro?" she managed, her voice strangled. "Why?!"
Tired eyes closed and began to fade. "You can live my life better than I can, that's why…"
