Nico looked up at the stars. The countless constellations, worlds expanding, getting farther and farther away. He leaned against one of the poles on the ship and searched for one that he knew well, for he had been there when it was born. A bit to the left was the galaxy that he had helped save. Nico loved the stars, they made him feel at peace. The stars were the only ones that knew who he really was and they accepted that. The stars were the only ones who cared about him.
He looked over to Percy and Annabeth talking. Then they kissed. Nico put his hands in the pockets of his aviator jacket and sighed. He didn't belong to the sea. That was all Percy. He didn't belong to the Underworld that was his father's. He didn't belong to the Earth or the Sky, they were Hazel and Jason. There was only one lonely g-d, and he was where Nico longed to be.
All this fighting was taking a toll on him, not that the other life didn't have its fair share, but they were fought with words and the intention of peace. A peace formed by understanding, acting only when it was necessary. This one was being fought with swords and battle cries. He felt the hilt of his sword and wanted so badly to fling it back into the depths where it was forged, to dent his armor and dull all of his blades. Would the other demig-ds even care if he was left defenseless against the monsters? He chuckled ironically, the worst monsters were mortal.
He looked over again to Percy and Annabeth. They were too wrapped up in each other that they didn't notice that he too was on deck. All Nico wanted now was a dozen of Sarah Jane's cookies. They could heal anything, even a broken heart. His throat tightened and he felt his emotions threaten to take control of his body. He looked back up at the stars, the countless worlds. Soon enough Annabeth went to her cabin and then it was just him and Percy. Percy looked happy being back in Poseidon's domain.
"You can come out now Nico."
Nico jumped. It wasn't that surprising that Percy knew he was there, he didn't know if Percy would acknowledge it. He walked over and stood next to Percy.
"I wonder how many stars are out there."
Percy's eyes sparkled as he looked up at the sky. Nico just shrugged, stars were born every day.
"Annabeth says it's stupid, but I wonder…"
"What Percy?"
"I wonder if there's anything out there you know. Aliens, planets, the Sun? Are the stars even real or is it all inception?"
"Yes."
Percy looked at Nico in confusion.
"The stars are real."
"What about the Sun?"
"A big ball of gas."
"But Apollo…"
"Is not the Sun."
Now Percy was really confused.
"Then how does he ride his chariot?"
Nico huffed. What was the point in trying to explain to someone who wouldn't listen? He then felt a very childish impulse and went on it. Nico was gone before Percy had even finished the question.
A/N Bonjour my readers! Please feel free to review, please do. Any type of criticism is welcome. Be warned that I don't do fluffy gooey where everybody gets along and has a happy ending. There's already enough of that floating around and I avoid it like roaches. I hate happy endings, I really do. That's probably why I like Lemmony Snicket so much. Anyways you have been warned, happy readings.
