See You in the Spring

The Summer King sat on an old, crumbling rock wall, cradling his head in his hands. He sighed deeply as his eyes wandered around the open field in front of him, following the last of the autumn leaves floating lightly to the ground, joining the piles of ruby red already laying there. The colors of fall danced all around him, the sharp red and burnt orange seeming to light the forest on fire.

He drew in another deep sigh, and the moment he breathed out the crisp air, he was taken aback by the sensation of a cool hand pressing gently under his chin, forcing him to look up. The emerald green eyes of the Summer King connected instantly with the cerulean of the Winter King's as the other man stared down at his sunlight-laced hair and freckled skin.

"Dean," the Winter King began, sending a shiver up the Summer King's spine at the intimate use of his real name, "Why do you appear so sad?" It was a gentle question, the Winter King's eyes going childishly wide with worry.

The light of the setting sun played against his chocolate brown hair, beginning to cast strange shadows across the woodland floor, as the Winter King cleared his throat. "Cas," he answered, his voice little more than a whisper, returning the intimacy by using the other man's first name as well, "Autumn is drawing to a close; this marks the end of our seasons intermingling." As if to prove his point, a sudden breeze blew infinitely more leaves down off the massive oak tree above them, and Dean added, "I'll miss it. I'll miss you."

Cas simply laughed, a noise as rich to Dean's ears as the birdsong on the first warm mornings of summer.

"This is the last of our time together," Dean said, gazing up at Cas and wondering how this could be striking his as funny.

"The end?" Cas questioned. "No, it's not a goodbye. I have it on good authority that we will soon meet again. That's my weakness, you see, winter's cold will always give way to summer's warmth. Each and every time."

The ghost of a smile played on the lips of the Winter King as he leaned in close, pressing those lips to the Summer's King in a gentle, warm kiss, which Dean gladly returned. Cas could feel Dean fading as their lips danced together in perfect sychronization, just as they always had. However, the kiss only grew lighter as the very last leaf fell to the ground at the feet of the Summer King and a far colder wind picked up. "Until next year," the Winter King whispered, with nothing but the winter wind left to hear his words.

Kay, so there's that. Super short, but I thought it was cute, and I just enjoy the thought of them only being apart for a short while. Especially right now. Not a goodbye, just a see you later kind of thing. Anyways, I hope you liked it! Got opinions? Well, I'd absolutely adore hearing them ;)

Much love to the reviewers :)
