Everybody has a weakness, everybody can be hurt, broken in some way or another. However, Mello wasnt quite ready to accept that he wasnt an exception to the rule, or rather, he wasnt going to admit his particular weakness.
Matt.
Matt was one of the few people that Mello could trust, along with L. He was Mello's friend, his best friend and dispite their differences they had a lot in common, taste in music and sense of humor. The little things that mattered. They were like brothers.
Thats why Mello couldnt ever tell him.
If Matt knew that Mello was bisexual and was in love with him, it could wreck their friendship. Mello couldnt face that.

Thats why now, Mello was curled up against Matt and L had his legs over both of them.
It was times like this that Mello could feel truly happy, he could fool himself that Matt loved him.
Mello sighed.
"Whats wrong?" Matt asked, he looked at the blonde curled against him and shifted slightly, his legs were going numb but he didnt care.
"Nuthin'" Mello mumbled "Just tired"
Matt smiled softly as L smirked, the Worlds Best Detective was probably getting the wrong idea.
L pushed at Mello's foot, getting up off the sofa and stretching.
"Shit"
L turned to the blonde who had spoken "Did I hurt you"
Mello glared at him "I cant be hurt" he growled. Matt stared down at his friend, he suddenly hugged him tighter and spoke in his ear; "You can be hurt Mells" Mello looked at him.
"Dont worry Mells, I'll protect you"

"Mells, if you could never be hurt then you wouldnt be human" Matt whispered, he noticed L glance at them and ignored the raven haired insomniac.
"Matty"
"Trust me Mello"
Mello closed his eyes and rested his head against Matt's chest "I do" he murmured.
"Mello"
"Yeah"
"I love... music"
"Me too"
They lay like that for a few moments, L left and they barely noticed.
Then Matt broke the silence.
"And I love you Mells"
I'm here on the edge again

From turning around
"You do?" Mello looked up at Matts anxious face, the younger boy nodded. "I love you too Matty" They pulled closer, Mello was the first to fall asleep and Matt lay there watching him.
"You can be hurt Mells" he murmured, then he yawned and slipped into sleep.
