Shadow's past

I woke to find that I was incased in a capsule-like machine and two beings were talking outside about something.

"I played my part of the deal, now for yours, in fifty years; I will return and collect the Chaos Emeralds." The black being ordered the professor and left. The professor then turned to release the hatch and I literally fell out but I got to my knees and bowed.

"I am at your command,"

"Shadow, you must get up! Please, my son, do not say Things like that. I am Gerald Robotnik, and your father. Shadow, my son, you have a job to do but first, there is someone I would like you to meet," the professor then bid me follow him. I walked behind him, surveying the metallic walls in the hallway. He eventually brought me to a room which housed a girl dressed in blue. My eyes went to her face, her eyes shone with awe and her face lit up when she saw me. She walked toward me and I faintly heard the professor say that this was his granddaughter, Maria.

"And you must be Shadow, I know we will be great friends" She said to me. Unfortunately, at this point, I had no idea what it meant to be friends.

"Come on, Shadow!" Maria said "Let me show you the ARK!" she took me by the hand and showed me a Security Diagram of the ARK, I memorized it and when she turned to me and asked me what I thought:

"Maria? Was it? I think that this station would suffice very well up here!" I said in ernest. I knew that since this is my home I had an obligation to protect it.

"I thought so too!" Maria smiled, and when she did, it gave me a feeling of fulfillment, like gladness. She then took my hand and brought me to the windows of the ARK and showed me a blue-green planet called Earth.

"We all used to live down there, but it has been a few years since I have been down there," Maria said looking at me.

"I wonder what it would be like on that planet?" I thought aloud.

"It is a beautiful place, I'll take you there sometime" She yawns "Ah, so tired, see you tomorrow," she kissed me on the forehead and left me standing with a feeling of joy and caring for her. I soon found out that she meant the world to me and I ……. Loved her….. more than a sister. Now this was not something I was programmed for but Maria's personality inspired this feeling within me. I felt like I had to protect her at all cost and went to the door in front of her room and sat outside her door and slept.
