For a man that could decimate a small village without much effort, he was surprisingly innocent in some aspects.
After their first few weeks of dating, Sasuke began to walk her to work after breakfast. He enjoyed her peaceful company and she never pushed him to talk about meaningless things.
Being with her was as natural as breathing.
They usually reached the academy gates in no time and said their farewells, but today, as Hinata turned to leave, Sasuke grabbed her elbow and shifted her around to face him.
She raised an eyebrow in questioning when he fixed her with an intense stare and gripped her shoulders.
Light pink dusted his cheeks as he slowly lowered his face to hers. His anxiety was palpable but endearing, she thought, and her eyes twinkled in amusement. He was all furrowed brows and stiff muscles and she wanted to tell him to breathe; relax.
At the rate he was going, the next season would pass before his lips touched hers, so Hinata decided to do him a favor. Placing her hands on his chest, she closed the gap between them by standing on her tiptoes.
The kiss was chaste. A mere brushing of their lips.
Still, it was soft and sweet, (nothing the Uchiha was used to) and it left his heart pounding.
Almost as soon as it happened, the couple was interrupted by a chorus of outbursts from primary school brats.
"Gross!"
"But boys have cooties!"
"Get away from Miss Hinata!"
The children that were previously playing in the yard rushed over and started tugging on the hem of their teacher's skirt to get her away from the Tall Scary Man.
Laughing at her students' antics and being "led to safety," she reluctantly bade goodbye to the stoic man. Sasuke, still in shock from the kiss, could only mechanically wave back.
Once she entered the building, his body went on autopilot and he walked away. Cursing himself for his hesitance, he shook his head to attempt to clear any nagging thoughts.
Wait, why did he just pass the old man's ramen stand? Coal eyes darted around his surroundings, finally snapping him out of his reverie.
Where was he going again? Ah, right. He realized he was heading away from the Hokage's building, when he should have been heading towards it. He turned around, trying to focus on preparing for his upcoming mission.
Next time⦠Next time he would be able to muster up the courage to give her a proper kiss.
