A Final Fantasy VIII fanfic
The sun was starting to set slowly sinking into the horizon, casting the sky in a fiery glow. The birds were singing, signalling the end of day and the coming of night. In the forest on the edge of the Kingdom of Balamb, a little girl of eight ran through the trees. She was a pretty blonde with big, bright blue eyes that were currently sparkling mischievously. Quickly following behind her was a young boy of a similar age. He had dark, brown hair that fell into his pale blue/grey eyes.
"Hurry up, we're gonna miss it." The little girl called.
"But where are we going?" The boy asked.
"Just follow me!"
After a few minutes of their frantic running through the trees, the little girl stopped abruptly, causing the little boy to crash into her.
"Why'd you s-?" The boy started to complain only to be stopped by the girl who merely pointed.
They were in a vast clearing in the forest. There was a small lake, which reflected the fiery glow of the sky above, bathing the clearing in a gold flame. On the opposite side of the lake, to them, was a massive tree. The tree was covered with birds of different sizes, shapes and colours, and that wasn't all, there were also many other creatures of the forest surrounding the tree.
It was ethereal!
"Wow!" The little boy breathed. "I've never seen anything like it!"
"Yeah!" The little girl replied. "You're the first person I've ever shown ."
The boy turned to the girl, his eyes shining with wonder.
"Thank you. I owe you." He whispered
"Just be my friend." She murmured in reply.
"I am your friend and I'll always be your friend." He vowed.
"Forever?"
"Forever." He agreed, and as if in confirmation of his vow the little boy took off the silver chain, that adorned his neck, and handed it to the girl.
"I can't have this. It's-
"That's my promise."
The little girl stared at the chain, which the boy's father had made for him. It had taken many long months to complete the carving of the lion on the necklace and in his ring. The little boy held him his ring to the girl.
"Now we're connected."
The little girl put on the necklace and took off the one that she had been wearing. It had a single teardrop sapphire as a pendant which reflected the deep blue of the girl's eyes.
"I want you to have this."
"Whoa-"
"It's my promise."
Both children smiled at each other and then headed back home, hand in hand.
