Prologue

Long ago in the sands of the ancient
When Pharaohs stood, strong and bold,
Long ago when shadows walked
When a prophecy was once foretold.

Two heroes lived,
One a Chosen King,
Determined with a heart made of gold,
A standing tall and fair being.

The other, with courage running in her core,
Shining silver upon the land
Stood strong and fierce,
Always at the Pharaoh's right hand.

Together they protect,
Together they fight,
Together they stand,
Together they brought light.

But the light was soon doused
When darkness once again rose
A legendary battle,
One that Fate had chose.

When all seemed gone,
He took his last stand,
One that had a cost,
A sacrifice that would mark the stone, hard sand.

Though she had remained,
Destiny had not ended there,
For the same evil was told to return,
To bring chaos back was it's sworn dare.

But also she swore,
When darkness once again stands,
That she'll appear
In the future of Egypt's lands

To help him remember,
To again fight by his side.
To again make sure,
Evil's wish was denied.

Darkness is what I see now, even though I feel my eyes blinking, trying to catch even the smallest essence of light. The ground below me is cold and hard. Where am I? I try to push myself off the ground, but my limbs were numb and stiff, and I struggled to fight against the gravity pulling me down. Nothing. I could barely feel anything, I could hear nothing, I could only see eternal black. My mind was a blur. I felt my eyes close, and lose their will to see.

"Shikiira!"

I cringe as a sharp jolt of pain went through my head, affecting my entire body. A ringing sound blared my thoughts. With my eyes closed, I could finally see something. I saw a man, or so I assumed as everything was blurry. He ran towards me and knelt down before me. I look up at him from an angle, as if I was still laying on the ground. He looks like he's saying something, but I couldn't make a word out as the ringing got louder and was joined by a throbbing boom. In the background, I could see whirls of gray flying up to the sky.

Then, for a moment, the man became clear. Crimson eyes filled with worry as he seemed to call out,

"SHIKIIRA!"

My eyes snapped open followed by a silent gasp. Darkness again, but the will to move and stand was stronger than before. With a grunt and a whimper, I finally manage to stand. My head throbbed and I was extremely dazed, I almost fell back down. The ringing in my head was evident still, but only slightly.

I began walking blindly through the darkness in no particular direction. My footsteps echoed as I walked. I must be inside someplace, but where? I wobbled, nearly tripping over my own feet every other moment. My body racked with shivers against the cold that enveloped me.

"Oof!"

I fell flat on my back. I was down again. Down on the ground, unmoving.

"Shikiira, please! You have to get up!"

I grabbed my head in pain again. The agonizing ring was loud and blaring once more, and the image of the man was flashing across my mind's eye. Who is he, and why does it feel like I know him? I pulled myself up into a sitting position, my hands trembling with fatigue. I used the wall I had bumped into for support. I took in a deep, heaving breath, it hurt so much.

"Sooner or later, you will realize that I am telling the truth!"

That voice was different, but I couldn't recall who the voice belonged to, and something told me I didn't want to remember. This voice held a sinister rasp to it, one that I felt that I had wished to never hear again, and yet despite not wanting to remember, I wished to know what the voice meant by that. What truth?

"You have darkness within you, and you know it! You can't escape it!"

I felt compelled to deny it. However, the pitch black that surrounded me would contradict that. I am in darkness, but I will escape it. I just have to figure out a way. I started to follow along the wall I leaned upon. Maybe It could show me the way out. As I walked with my hand sliding across the wall, I felt strange cracks and depressions that seemed to be in a pattern. Were they engravings of some sort? I soon came across a hole in the wall. Curious, I put my hand inside and found some sort of switch. I toggled it and next thing I knew a rumble began to grumble behind me.

I turned towards the sound to find that a pedestal with a fire basin had risen up. The basin was lit with a small and dim blue flame that barely lit the room. Its glow was soft and pleasant, and danced beautifully in the darkness. I wonder though, how long has that flame been burning? It's so small it seems like it should have burned out ages ago, but yet here it is, burning like a memory that refuses to fade away.

"It is time to re-awaken."

Suddenly the flames began to grow and flicker faster and burn brighter.

"It is time for evil to rise once again."

The flames shot towards me, making me scream and brace my arms in front of me in a futile attempt to protect myself. The flames surrounded me in a torrent, my vision swirling nothing but blue. Then, I felt the most painful shock to my mind I had ever felt.

"It is time for you to remember."

Darkness engulfed me again.

"Hey look! She's waking up!"

I'm hearing voices again.

"Really? She hit her head pretty hard."

Wait, that's not in my head!

I jolted up and looked around, and saw that I was outside in a heated desert canyon, under a tent. Two people stood before me, neither familiar. A women in a blue suit with a mic resting on her head, and a man in a white one, a medic badge pinned to his shirt pocket.

"Well she looks fine now," The women said.

"Even so, I still need to keep an eye on her," The medic replied.

I was confused.

"Um, what happened?" I asked.

Both of them blinked, not expecting me to speak.

"Ah yes," The medic answered, "you had wandered off from your tour group and was later found in an empty room of the tomb. You gave everyone a pretty good little scare."

"Little?" the women reiterated with a raised brow," We had a whole search party going! She was in a room that wasn't even uncovered!"

Now I remembered, I was on an excavation tour and ended up getting separated from the group. After that though, it's all a blur. Maybe because I had fallen and hit my head somewhere like the medic said. Though, whatever room they mentioned, I had no recollection of how I ended up there.

"Tell me," the medic asked, " Do you remember anything about what happened?" I shook my head in reply. "Guess that's to be expected." He brought his medic kit out and opened it. "I'll need to run a check-up, alright?" He took out a small flashlight. "Now look to the side slightly for me." I did as he told and he flashed the light in my eye, waving it back and forth. "Hmm, her pupils aren't dilating correctly, a bit slow to react, a minor concussion I presume." Concussion? It didn't seem that bad, although, I did have somewhat of a headache and a slight ring in my ears. "Alright, I'm gonna ask you a few questions." I nodded in response, saying I'm ready.

"Alright, what state do you live in?"

"Texas."

"What's today's date"

That one took me a moment. " Um, August third, or is it the forth?"

"It's the third. Okay, now what's your name."

"Shikiira Silvieay."

The medic nodded and hummed. "Well, doesn't seem serious, you should be fine by tomorrow," He concluded while closing his kit. "I suggest that when you get back to your hotel, you rest up for the rest of the day. Take some pain medication too, if needed."

"Right," I replied.

After everything was taken care of, the tour guide took everyone back to the city and I returned to my hotel. My headache hadn't gone away over the trip so I thought I'd take some pain medication and rest like the medic advised. I went to grab a bottle of water from the fridge, then I grabbed some aleve from my bag. I popped two pills into my mouth before taking some water.

"Shikiira!"

A sharp pain went through my skull, making me drop my water and cup my hands around my head. I'm hearing those voices again! The ringing in my head was steadily growing.

"Quick you must get out of here!"

I flinched and fell to my knees, making my skirt wet from the water that puddled on the floor from its bottle.

"Is this all you're truly capable of?"

"I need to go lay down," I said to myself as I shakily stood back up, leaning on the wall next to me.

"Why does he have so much trust in her? She's a girl that came off the streets!"

My legs felt like they were gonna collapse out from under me. Why am hearing these voices, and why are they so familiar? I only manage to make it to the couch, letting myself fall onto it.

"You've seen what she can do. She's not ordinary and the light that the millennium items saw proved as such!"

My head was pounding and my vision began to get blurry.

"That wasn't the only thing they saw!"

"Wow! You can do that? That's so cool! What else can you do?"

"There's nothing you can do to stop me! I am the King of Thieves!"

"Think again!"

"The darkness rises."

"Pharaoh!"

I lost consciousness.

"Where is he?" I wondered aloud, walking through the halls of the palace. Although the place was beautiful, with large stone statues, golden pedestals, and silk curtains lining the large open windows, it was a complete maze and one someone could easily get lost in. I kept turning down this way and that, but I couldn't find him! I swear, that Pharaoh can drive me nuts sometimes.

As I turned the corner, I found a familiar face, though not the one I was hoping for, sadly, but maybe she could help.

"Hello, Isis." She turned to me at my call. She dawned her tan priestess robes and the Millennium Necklace

"Ah, Shikiira, what brings you to this part of the palace?" The priestess asked.

"It's the Pharaoh, he's disappeared somewhere again," I told her.

"Ah yes," she recalls, "he's still distancing himself, isn't he?"

"Yeah,"I confirmed, "ever sense Mahad passed, he's been completely out of it."

Isis laughed lightly, "You were no different the other day for the same reason you know. You stowed away in your room, refusing to eat or sleep. Only Mana and the Pharaoh managed to bring you out."

"I know," I sighed. I had felt so devastated. We were too late to save our comrade and I had blamed myself for not being strong enough to get to him in time. I still do, but during these times, I have to pull through as who knows what will happen next. "But I'm going to make up for it. It was Mahad's wish to protect the Pharaoh with all his might. I will honor him and do the same."

"You've already been doing as such," Isis stated. "As the Silver Sorceress, you've been tasked with being the Pharaoh's exemplar, his guide."

I looked at the floor, rubbing my arm with my left hand, "Mahad was a much better guide then I could ever be, as for me, well, I've been doing a poor job lately."

Isis brought her hand up to my chin, lifting it so I could look her in the eyes. "We've all been unable to be up to our tasks lately. However, that doesn't mean we can't be strong enough to pull through. It also takes far greater things to put out those flames of yours, you know. " She smiled at me and I smiled back.

A rumble was heard throughout the palace.

"Looks like trouble has begun to stomp yet again," I proclaim. Isis nodded in agreement and we both headed to the room where the sound had originated.

"Let me go!" I struggled against my captor, wriggling and kicking. Currently, I was captured by the enemy, and the Pharaoh was out of energy, barely sitting on his horse.

"It's pointless," The Thief King scoffed."Those bonds cut you off from your magic pool, even your flames are useless against them!"

"Let her go thief! Leave her out of this!" The Pharaoh roared, despite his state.

"You're in no position to make demands, Pharaoh!" He then raised his hand in the air, "nor are you in the condition to fight any longer, strike him now, Diabound!"

His Ka roared with rage as it followed it's masters command, letting loose a Dark Magic Attack it had stolen from the monster it earlier slew.

"Pharaoh, no!" I cried out as my friend got hit, causing him to fall and cling to the edge of the abyss. The Thief King walked up to him, towering over the edge to look down, laughing maniacally.

"I think it's about time I finally take this back to where it belongs," He declared, snatching the Pharaohs Millennium Pendant. He then forced him off the edge, leaving the Pharaoh to scream out as he fell into the blackness.

"No!" I cried out, sitting up from my position on the couch. I was panting heavily, my hand clutching my shirt, looking around frantically, making sure my surroundings were what they were. 'It was all a dream?'

"Well then, now it's time for you to be put to good use for once."

"Argh!" I exclaimed, clutching my head. It won't go away! 'I need to get outta here! Out out OUT!'

"There's no hope of escape for you now."

I didn't bother going for the door, I headed straight for the window, not caring that I was on the second floor, I was just running on adrenaline and instinct.

I quickly force the window open and jumped out. Thankfully, there was a pile of trash below to catch my fall, but as quickly as I landed, I had sprung up and dashed out of the alleyway into the streets. I pushed passed many as I ran, making them cry out in surprise before they moved on with their life.

"What? You found her on the streets? Preposterous!"

I nearly stumbled over as a shock of pain struck my head again. I refused to stop however and corrected my balance. I ran down this way and that, not caring where I was going. I was running away from whatever was possibly plaguing my mind, despite it being futile, however, I would have fared worse in closed walls.

"You've been named to be the young prince's exemplar? That's great!"

Again, I nearly fell over, I can't keep running for much longer. Feeling dizziness come over me again, I resorted to hiding in an alley to rest, and possibly keep myself from passing out again.

"What makes you think she's up to the task?"

I sat down, clutching my head in my hands once more. The ache in my head refused to cease, becoming worse with each sting that the voices gave me.

"Ha! Don't think you'll win that easily!"

Tears began to drip from my eyes, it was all unbearable! "Why won't they stop!?" I whimpered.

"She's a fine sorceress, I must admit."

"Hey, are you sure there isn't anything wrong? You can tell me anything, you know."

"I will not stop until he is defeated and I won't let you get hurt for my sake!"

"It's futile, just give up!"

"So, this is where you've run off to."

I froze. That voice, it was familiar, but it wasn't in my head. I looked to see the women from my dream, only different. She was slightly younger looking and her black hair was let out to flow below her waist. Her face though, and the necklace she wore, was exactly the same, and that only made me scared.

"Get back, stay away!" I warned, scooting back across the ground. Whoever she is, whatever she wants, well, I don't want to find out.

"There is no need to be afraid. I am a friend," She assured, reaching her hand out to me. I, still wary, only scooted further.

"How do I know I can trust you?" I questioned, eyeing her with disdain.

"She's a disgrace! There's no way she'll be up to it!" I flinched again, whimpering.

"You wish for the voices to stop, do you not?" The women inquired, not moving from her spot, her hand's offer still standing. I was about to ask how she knew of my problem, but she spoke before I could as if she knew what I was about to say. "I know many things, as well as who you are. However, let's take care of your situation first. Do you not want to make the pain go away? I can help you with that, but only if you let me."

I looked at her in the eyes for any hint of lies and threats. No matter how hard I looked, though, I could only find genuine honesty. Hesitantly, I took her hand and let her pull me up. Now that her hand was in mine, I felt like I knew her even more, but I couldn't tell why. She felt like she had kindness and wisdom radiating from her.

"Now, follow me," She urged, "there's a car waiting for us." She led me out of the alleyway and I was leaning on her to keep up as I was still dizzy. The voices were still evident, but they didn't hurt as much when they rang, only a leaving a dull throb. Was it because that she's here now? Was she suppressing the voices now that I have chosen to follow her? Whatever it was, I was thankful for it. Still, I wanted them completely gone.

We had gotten into the backseat of the car and she told the man up front to drive. "Yes ma'am," he replied and started the car. I didn't pay attention to where were driving. I actually couldn't focus on anything, my mind was fuddled, in a blur of what I heard inside and around me. Many times I felt myself nodding off, feeling tired from all that has happened, wishing that if I did happen to fall asleep, it would once again be dreamless. I had felt my eyes closing again, and every time I did, I would see visions. Visions of people I knew, and at the same time, didn't.

The man looked at me and gave me a soft look. He had tri-colored hair of black, reddish purple, and gold, a golden prince's crown adorning it. His red eyes bore into mine. "Another bad dream, huh? I'm sorry, it's must be hard knowing you can't ever dream good dreams. They're either that of nightmare or of darkness that is gone in a flash and morning is already upon you."

"You mustn't let yourself fall asleep," The woman next to me had warned, making me open my eyes again to look at her with confusion. "If you do, your mind will be swarmed again and you may not be able to wake up from it." I nodded in understanding and she squeezed my hand for assurance. I hadn't realized before, but she hasn't let go of me since. It was like she was acting as a lifeline, a link for me to hold onto to keep myself from falling to the dreams that wished make themselves known, and anchor me to reality.

"I know you wish to rest, " she said, " and I don't blame you, and you will soon. For now, just wait a little longer."

Thankfully, the wait was fast, at least for me it was. I was too focused on staying awake that I lost track of time. We had actually left the city and had come upon some ruins. Seeing them, though, made me uncomfortable. Surprisingly, the woman sensed my uncertainty.

"Do not worry. All will be fine and clear soon enough," she said when the car stopped and we were let out. The man that drove the car led us to what looked like a hidden trap door that led underground. We were then led down dimly torch-lit halls. Where we were going and why? What is down here that is going to help me? We came across a room and when our guide opened it, it was revealed to be a bedroom with a nightstand and mirror on the opposite wall. We walked in and I went and sat down on the bed, feeling relieved to have a place to lay down.

"Stay here, I'm going to get something," she said as she turned to leave the room. Not wanting my only source of mental support to leave me all alone, I grabbed her arm.

"Please, don't go!" I piped. She turned to me in surprise, blinking, then she smiled kindly, and laid her hand on mine.

"Don't worry, I'll be right back," She assured. Reluctantly, I let go and allowed her to leave. Thankfully, as quickly as she left, she came back as promised with something in hand.

"Here," she said, "Put this on." In her hand was a dark blue belt-choker necklace dawning a strange medallion of sorts. Carved at its center was an Eye of Wdjat. How was this thing supposed to solve my problem? "Go on," she ushered, "this will make everything clear."
It seemed like I didn't have any other choice, and besides, I was quite desperate to get the voices to stop. I took the necklace and put it on.

When I did, a sudden warmth washed over me and the medallion gave off a great golden light. A slight tingling was felt on my forehead and I felt a powerful energy surge through me, nothing like anything I ever had. When it all died down, my vision began to fade and everything in my mind became quiet. I collapsed on the bed, finally giving in to unconsciousness for one final time.

When I awoke, I found myself smelling the essence of warm bread and oatmeal. As I opened my eyes, I had found myself tucked in the bed I had earlier fell on. I looked to my side at the nightstand to find the food I had smelled along with a glass of milk. Next to it was the woman who had came to my aid.

"Good morning," She greeted, " I assume your rest was well?" I nodded and sat up. My rest had been a dreamless one, and the voices were absent.

"That's good," She smiled and handed me the tray of food, setting it in my lap. I hadn't noticed before, but I was starving, having not eaten last night at all. I eagerly dug into the food, taking a swift bite of the bread and a gulp of milk, followed but a large scoop of the oatmeal. Not much later, I was left with an empty tray and questions on my mind.

"Tell me, why is it that you look like Isis?" I asked. The woman seemed to be confused for a moment, then understood.

"Ah yes, I may look like her, but I am not. I'm only a reincarnation, not reborn like you. I'm actually known as Ishizu Ishtar, a tomb keeper here of the Nameless Pharaoh." I looked down sorrowfully as if I was actually secretly hoping that they were the same person. I should've guessed after all.

" I remember everything, " I said, not lifting my gaze.

"So the voices are gone then?" She asked and I nodded in response. "So then it worked. It was worrisome, I must admit, I wasn't sure how much longer you would manage. The human mind is a fragile thing, there's no way one could survive receiving such a large amount of memories. When word came that the Flame of Remembrance had gone out, I had feared it might have been too late. To tell you the truth, I was going to come for you when you came back from your tour. I had not expected for you to find it before it was time as you were meant to be given the Millennium Talisman before then."

" I see," I replied, taking it all in. "No wonder my mind was in so much pain. Such a rush of information completely tossed it into chaos. That's over now, though, and I'm fine, the Millennium Talisman has done its work. My memory and powers have been returned, just like everything had been planned."

I lifted up my hands and looked at them curiously. I turned over my right hand to find a familiar marking: A dragon's head with its tail stopping at my wrist and was tan in color compared to my pale skin. "So I've truly been reborn, " I began. "It's strange, even this mark is still with me." I turned my hand back over so that both my palms faced up. I closed my eyes and concentrated. Slowly, energy built up in my hands. Focusing hard, I released it out in the form of heat. I opened my eyes to find a small, warm, and dimly glowing blue flame.

"The legendary Atsumari Flames only to have been wielded by the Silver Sorceress," Ishizu said with awe," It's sure a sight to behold." The flames beauty was short-lived, however, as it quickly faded away.

"Yes, but I'm rusty. As to be expected sense my magic pool has gone unused for centuries. I'll have to fix that soon. My awakening, after all, could only mean one thing."

"Indeed, " The tomb keeper replied, " The worlds darkest hour is drawing near, and the Pharaoh has been freed from the Millennium Puzzle."

The Pharaoh has been freed. Huh, it's been five thousand years since I had seen him, and he won't have any memory himself, let alone me. I wonder how he'll react when we meet. Will I feel familiar to him, or will I come off as any other stranger? I suspect it would be the latter, but part of me hopes that he'll still feel something. Either way, his memory is gone.

"Speaking of whom, " I began, " I'm gonna need to find him. It's my job as his exemplar to guide and protect him, as well as restore his memories."

Ishizu nodded, "Yes, that's actually already been taken care of."

"Really? How?" I asked.

"With the power of my Millennium Necklace. The puzzle was solved by the Pharaoh's reincarnate, Yugi Muto, who currently resides in Domino City Japan."

"I see, so that's where I need to go."

" Yes. Just a week before you came here to Egypt, I had arranged a flight for you, as well as a residence for you to say, and assigned you to the school he's going to."

"Well that's convenient," I paused for a moment and looked at her quizzically. "Wait, how did you get my personal information?"

She gave me a sly smile, "Us tomb keepers have our ways and connections." That still didn't quite answer my question, but I suppose it was good enough sense finding the Pharaoh was all that mattered.

"When do I leave?" I ask.

"In two days, you'll have plenty of time to gather yourself and your things. By then you should be ready."

"Got it."

I turned to look in the mirror that hung on the wall before my hair and eyes were also the same as they were back then. My hair was silver and straight with uneven bangs that framed my sharp, deep blue eyes. I'm finally back, and that means everything is about to change. I knew not of what was to come, only that I had to be prepared. Over the next few days, I'll probably do some training to at least get my magic pool swirling again. It's a big must, for I have to be strong enough to be able to protect the Pharaoh. 'Until we meet, Pharaoh, I wish you well these next few days.
