The Watch
"Starsky, do we really have to go to that chili place for dinner? I know a perfect little Italian restaurant right outside of town. How about it, huh?" Hutch asked his partner.
"Chili Hutch, I want chili and you promised me you would go this time." Starsky said in his best childlike pout.
"Ok Starsk, chili it is." Hutch said with a sigh.
Starsky takes out his keys and bends to put them in the lock when the clasp on his watch breaks, sliding off his wrist and hitting the pavement. "Damn it Huggy" he swore.
Just as he bent down to retrieve the watch he heard Hutch yell, "Starsky get down!" Then a spray of bullets hit the side of the Torino and glass started raining down all over him. Everything was happening so fast he didn't even have time to pull his gun out. He heard the squeal of tires as the police car raced out of the parking lot. Then… all went quiet.
Starsky yelled for Hutch, "Hutch, are you ok? Where are you?"
Hutch came running around the front of Starsky's car and saw Starsky sitting up against the door in disbelief. "You alright buddy, were you hit?" Hutch asked looking for bullet wounds.
"No, I'm ok. What about you, you ok?" Starsky asked Hutch, also looking to see if his partner was wounded.
"I'm fine, but wonder what that was all about? Whoever they were they sure meant business. Thank God you ducked in time or you would have been turned into a piece of Swiss cheese." Hutch said.
"It was the watch Hutch, that cheap watch Huggy sold me! The clasp broke and I was bending to get it. I just can't believe it Hutch!" They both sat in silence and stared at the watch in disbelief.
Finally Hutch broke the silence between them, "Hey partner, what do you say we skip the chili tonight and head over to Huggy's for some beer and pizza? I think I'd like to talk with him about buying a watch."
