It was one of those cold summer nights, but luckily, a pair of strong arms was there to keep Yamanaka Ino feeling safe and warm. Love was all they had and the only thing they needed at that point. Both she and her beau, a certain spiky haired Nara Shikamaru, ran from society and the life that cruel Fate had chosen for them.
Shikamaru, the son of the city's swindler, was not permitted by the social order to be with the wealthy Ino. Her family came from a long line of politicians, and they expected more for her. However, no one said anything about them falling in love. Some people would call it "meant to be", but the more knowing-like you and I- know that love is never planned out. Love just happens; that's why the saying is "falling in love". One doesn't mean to fall, or else it's not really falling.
They found solace in their secret place, the forest just beyond the park. Silence permeated their hiding place as they stood, staring at the stars. "Let's run away, just me and you," Ino whispered quietly into Shikamaru's shoulder. "I'd love that, but not now. We're still in high school," he replied, taking her hand and kissing it.
Ino removed herself from his embrace. "Do you remember how this all started? How it wasn't even supposed to happen?" She laid down on the grass, turning on her side as if she were ready to sleep. Shikamaru got down beside her. "Tell me our story," he said, "I'd never forget, but I love hearing it."
"It started just like this. You were best friends with my brother, and we just started talking. I had a crush on you ever since I was four, so everything you said made me happy.
"Then one day, I had the courage to tell you something." Ino paused, feeling the sting of her tears. Shikamaru wiped them away and took her hands again. "You can skip this part if you want. I don't want to see you cry; it hurt me enough the first time."
She shook her head bravely, but knew inside that she felt like a baby all over again. "I asked for your help because it hurt so much. Everything was falling apart. Then you stepped in. It was like everything made sense when you were around and the darkness wasn't a prison.
We always met in secret because no one else knew about what happened to me. No one else seemed to care. You made a new darkness for me every time we came here . It became my favorite place to be. Then you said you loved me. I smiled the rest of that week; I was the happiest girl in the city."
"And I was the happiest guy when you said you loved me too."
"I feel so weak for doing what I did, but it was what brought us together. Life doesn't feel too bad anymore," Ino said, getting up. "Give me a dance," she said, reaching for Shikamaru's hand.
"Just take my hand," he said. She smiled, knowing that they just quoted her favorite song. That was them: the music couple. They thrived off music and that too brought them together, but that's a different story.
And so, they danced on their special hill. "I love you," Shikamaru told her. He held her by the wrists and kissed her scars, wishing with all his heart that he would be the one to heal her completely.
I hope you guys understood what I was getting at... Hehe. Reviews?
Anyway, I was thinking of expanding this. Should I write a story around it? I'm thinkin' I should. Maybe I will. Depends on if ya wanna read?
