Wade Kinsella, War Hero
Summary: Everyone has their own kind of battle to fight
Why?: Because this fandom needs more…fans.
Disclaimer: I don't own anything, blah blah.
If George Tucker was golden boy, and Lavon Hayes was the town celebrity, Jesse Kinsella was the wayward son. The success story.
He left the town, his roots, and seldom looked back. Nor did he have to, really, because he had very little to keep him there.
Jesse Kinsella was a war hero. Soldier boy. Perfect son.
A decorated soldier who sacrificed in the name of his country, who worked hard to get educated, and made something of himself. He escaped the clutches of tedious small town monotony. The invariable paranoia. The circle jerk of gossip, and group of people that never really moved on from the glories of yesteryear. He didn't have to deal with recounting old stories over beers, or accusatory glances from the town. They hardly even recognized him anymore.
No, Jesse Kinsella left the town as soon as he could, not because he hated his old life, but because he wanted to make something of himself.
He was free because he allowed himself to be free.
But, that's not Wade Kinsella. Not even close. The caricatured "bad boy with a heart", the resident screw up, and town playboy. He worked at a bar for fun, because that wasn't serious business. Oh no, he was going to find himself...
He made music, fixed cars and odds and ends to pass the time. He budged just enough every couple of months to rescue his father from his various drunken adventures out of filial duty and, though he would never admit it, love. And guilt. And frustration.
Because, Wade Kinsella never made anything of himself… since he never allowed himself to be free.
He never escaped the clutches of the town. They would never know about the people he helped, the secrets he kept, or the relationships he saved over many a drunken chat. They would never know the dreams he had, the fears he braved, or the friendships he loyally kept. They would never know that beneath his devil-may-care persona, he was afriad that he would turn into his father.
Wade Kinsella isn't the "right sort" nor would he ever be.
Proper ladies didn't look him in the eye, mommas warned their daughters about guys like him, and boyfriends would clutch their significant others a bit closer when he was in the room. Little boys wanted to be like him, but then they became men who knew better.
Wade Kinsella had to side-step perceptions, and bat away his past in order to do anything worthy of praise. It's a fruitless endeavor, never to work in his favor, because small towns have long memories.
It's a battle that cannot be won, but a battle that will continually be fought…
…because Wade Kinsella is a war hero too, just of a different sort.
A/N: Short, I know. Also, I dont care if Wade's background gets jossed. Justin Hartley needs to comeback on the show.
