Prologue
"Mum, hurry up! We're going to be late!" I cried, tying up my shoelaces by the entrance of the door.
"Alright, alright I'm coming darling," mum shouted behind her with a sore voice, but still as sweet as ever.
Mum appeared in front of my sight, almost immediately after I had called out her name. It was astonishing to see my mother in a strapless gown of pale grey embroidered silk, with an asymmetrical overpanel revealing a less-heavily embroidered underskirt. Her pale skin embraced with the magnificent dress with the contrasting brightness of the sun, shone through the gap of the half-opened door.
"Mum, isn't this a bit too much?" I groaned, although I had to admit that my eyes were fixed to the radiance of her outfit. No wonder she took way too long to get dressed…
"Come on Seohyun, this one rare occasion that I will have a chance to dress up and besides, I want to make it special for you. Now, lets get going," mum hurried me out of the door and popped me into our four-wheel drive.
This is the road in which I travel everyday to and from school and today, will be my last day taking this road.
Not long after, we have arrived at the front entrance, piled with flower banquets around the columns of the gates. As I jumped out of our four-wheel drive, mum gave me a comfortable hug to release my nervousness and regain my inner bravado.
By the gate, I discovered that my best friend, Yoona was waiting for me patiently, as usual. Her long silky black hair flowed across each of her shoulders, and her gentle smile naturally, created a bunch of paparazzi around her. I waited until the paparazzi retrieved and I quickly pulled her inside the half-closing gate.
"I'm sorry Seohyun, those bunch of crazy guys just never give up," complained Yoona with her irritating behaviour.
"It's alright Yoon, I understand. For being with you these past six years, I understand."
There was a long and awkward silence.
I almost forgot. After today, we will no longer see each other as she got accepted into the university of Cambridge across the other side of the world.
"I…" tears started rolling down my eyes and by then the school yard was empty as everyone was ordered into the large hall.
"Don't say a word. I have to go now, I'll see you inside." Her hands slowly left my shoulders and I somehow felt like that she no longer exists in my life.
