A cold winter breeze blew against the windows of Watchpoint Gibraltar as the heroes of the newly regrouped Overwatch lay in their beds, wrapped in blankets in an attempt to keep warm. Mei, however, was up late working on her latest invention for the team. She let out a yawn and leaned back in her chair, looking over at Snowball, who was at rest in his charging bay. Even he knew how late it was. She closed her eyes for a moment, but they opened once more as she heard a knock on the door. Standing up from her seat and slipping her slippers on, she shuffled to the door, shivering slightly from the cold. On the other side of the door was Zarya, who was holding a bundle of blankets in her arms. "Zarya!" exclaimed Mei, surprised to see her girlfriend up so late. "What are you doing here? It's very late, you know"
"Of course I know," she responded, "But I worry about you staying up so late." Glancing down at the blankets in her arms, she added, "It is also very cold in the workshop, so I decided to bring the warm to you." She walked past Mei and set the blankets down on the couch, patting the seat next to her in an attempt to get Mei to sit.
"You know I'm used to the cold," Mei said, sitting down next to Zarya. "I've been through worse than this. You're overreacting." She smiled as Zarya draped a blanket over her shoulders, and Mei leaned against her.
"Perhaps I am," said Zarya in return, "But I will take any excuse to take care of you, my little bear." She took another blanket and draped it around them both, then leaned back on the couch with a smile.
Mei laughed. "I suppose I can put up with it this time," she sighed, "But next time, don't worry about me!"
"We shall see about that," Zarya responded, putting an arm around her girlfriend and holding her close. For a few moments, it was quiet, with no sounds but the whoosh of the wind outside the window. Zarya looked down and saw that Mei had closed her eyes, and was now sleeping. She smiled, and closed her eyes as well. There the two sat together, sleeping soundly, the bitter cold a stranger to the warmth of their love.
