Because this is just what the world needs: yet another NaLu story. These two get tons of love so I usually write for GrayZa, but I got this idea and HAD to do it. But go NaLu! xD
Consider this an apology for me taking so long to update 13th Street (I'm getting there!). My Pokemon readers don't get an apology. They just get the fics updated. :P
On a side note, my beta-reader found no spelling or gramatical errors in this one. That's like the first time that's ever happened! Yay me! xDDD
Enjoy!

Scarf
For the first time in her present memory, it becomes useful.
.x.x.x.
It was cold.
In fact, cold was an understatement. It was one of those days that you spend inside and do nothing but drink hot chocolate and read sappy romance novels. And Lucy was left wondering what in the world she was doing on one of those days only in a skirt, blouse, coat and boots. She had seen the weather reports. She had dressed appropriately for what the forecast had said. But what the forecast hadn't foreseen was Gray and Natsu getting into a fight, resulting in a thick layer of ice over a one-mile radius. Erza had given the ice mage a beating and a lecture, but that still didn't fix the fact that it was at least ten degrees colder than it had been in the first place.
Lucy glanced to the side at her companions, envious of how they could all manage to stay warm when she was about to freeze to death. Gray was used to the cold as a result of his ice magic training. Erza had ex-quipped into more than one coat, looking slightly like a marshmallow and continually glaring at Gray for making it so cold. Happy had fur to keep him warm. And Natsu just walked along with the group like it was a pleasant spring day.
Lucy had to focus- yes, focus - to not stop in her tracks and just stand there and shiver. She figured that walking with them to their next mission was the smartest thing to do, as exercise generates warmth, which Lucy was in desperate need of.
Thus, her new focus became walking to become as warm as possible. Her steps were rigid and to everybody else, she probably looked absolutely ridiculous, but she had to do what she had to do to stay warm.
"Lucy?" She turned around to see Happy floating near her face. "Are you cold?"
"N-no," she lied.
"Then why are you walking so weird, Lucy?"
"Shut up!"
"Lucy?" This time it was Natsu. "Do you need me to warm you?"
"No!" Lucy yelled. "I don't want your flames anywhere near me! They'll singe my clothes." The blonde turned her attention back to her feet and moving them as much as possible to keep warm.
"That's not what I meant."
"Then what did you-" She was cut off when something soft fell around her shoulders.
"I was going to give you this," he said. Lucy held up the cloth only to realize that it was Natsu's scarf - the one that he never, ever took off.
"Won't you need it?" she asked, not wanting to take his most precious piece of clothing from him - especially when it was so freezing outside.
"I'm not cold," he said with a shrug. "You are."
Lucy could practically feel her cheeks turning pink as she wrapped the scarf around herself. "It must be the cold," she thought to herself. "Yes. It must be."
