Scared of Thunderstorms? Not Anymore.

Maria woke up from her sleep to the sound of roaring thunder and howling wind. She saw rain lashing against the window and trees swaying in the wind.

Her thoughts went to the five year old Gretl, who Maria knew was extremely scared of thunderstorms.

She got out of bed in her royal white nightgown and slipped her feet into her slippers. One landing lower, she saw door of Gretl's room slightly ajar.

Slowly, she pushed open the door and the sight in front of her eyes, made her heart melt.

Gretl was curled up against her father's chest. Georg's arm was wrapped around her and he was whispering something into her ear which sounded like a soothing lullaby.

Maria couldn't help smiling at the pair of them. Georg von Trapp had changed so much in a short time. When she had arrived few months ago as a governess, she had thought the Captain to be unnecessarily strict and rather detached from his children. But now this warm and affectionate side of him as a father, pleased her. She had always yearned to be a part of such loving family.

Gretl was now fast asleep, in safe and comforting arms of her father. She looked peaceful. Georg kissed the top of his daughter's head and noticed Maria standing by the door.

They exchanged a warm smile and he beckoned her towards him.

'I heard the storm raging and decided to check on her. She's is still scared of thunderstorms' said Georg.

'She won't be. Not anymore' said Maria squeezing his free hand. 'She knows she's safe in her father's arms.'

They started at one another. There was no need of exchanging words. Their hearts communicated their feelings to each other perfectly.

Georg pulled her towards him with his free hand and pressed his lips to her temple. 'I love you, Maria' he murmured.

Maria smiled. It was a simple gesture but it made her a part of this loving, caring family.

'I love you too' she whispered feeling that she was the happiest person in the world.
