Friends Never Say Goodbye
A Roy & Hughes Friendship Fanfiction
"You've got my support Roy. But you could've just asked for it." Roy recalled the time when Hughes had told him that as he stood in front of his friend's grave. He couldn't believe that he was really gone. He had been through it all with Hughes, from training in the military to the Ishvalan War. He had been with him through it all.
It hurt, knowing he was dead. Hughes had called Roy, but after he had answered… it had been too late. And Roy blamed himself for it. Hughes had been his best friend till' the end, and Roy never realized Hughes had always been there for him. He had supported his goal, and stood right there by his side.
Roy bent down and placed a family picture of Hughes, his wife Gracia, and his daughter Alicia on Hughes' grave. "Your daughter… she's getting older," Roy said to the gravestone, smiling only slightly. "They miss you Hughes."
For a while, Roy just sat there looking down, his hair shielding his face, covering his expression. Riza stood behind him, her head bowed and eyes closed, hair down for a change. Roy thought of the memories the two had had together, and though he wouldn't show it, it made him miss the 'doting dad' even more.
He thought briefly of human transmutation, but the thought was diminished quickly by Edward's missing limbs, and Alphonse without a body. Roy stood up and looked at the sky, his dark hair still shielding his face. "It's time to go, Colonel," Riza said, her tone not sharp and strict as it usually was.
"It's going to rain," Roy responded, oddly quiet. "It's a terrible day for rain." "But it's not raining." "No." A tear came down Roy's cheek, and Riza's eyes grew ever more sad. "It's going to be raining all night." Riza gave a small nod. "Are you alright sir?" she asked. "I'm fine," Roy replied as he wiped away his tears. But it was clear to Riza that the Colonel was anything but fine.
"Let's go, Lieutenant." "Yes sir."
