The Fall of the Wall

Prussia stood there, eyes wide and unbelieving. The Berlin Wall was gone! The wall that kept him separated from his brother for years was now lying in ruins. People were climbing over the rubble so they could find family members and friends. So they could see what had changed during the past 28 years. A tear found it's way down his cheek as he observed the citizens from both sides reunite with lost loved ones.

Could this really be happening? Would he finally be able to see his brother again? He didn't want to believe it for fear that it was all a dream. He kept telling himself that he would wake up in Russia's house. "Wake up!" He yelled at himself, pinching his arm. He lowered himself and stared at the ground. More tears flowed down his face. He didn't want to be let down.

"Brother!" Prussia recognized the voice. It wasn't a voice that he heard since the Berlin Wall was built. Looking up he saw the familiar blonde hair slicked back, but it was also sticking up in places. Prussia stood and stared at the approaching figure, shaking his head. None of this was real and he wasn't about to let the dream draw him in.

Turning on his heel he ran through the still multiplying crowd and said, "Stop, this can't be real!"

The albino ran through the crowds of people, not knowing where he should go. He contemplated going back to Russia, but he decided that he wanted to have as long as he could have away from the cheery, yet torturous man. So he would drag this dream on as long as he could, but he not would bring up his hopes by going to his brother. No, it would be too painful. He couldn't be dragged away from West a second time. Damn dreams! Who was it that thought it'd be funny to give him this dream?

He kept on running until his legs felt like they would give out. Slowing to a stop, he bent over and tried to catch his breath. Atleast he had put good distance between him and his supposed brother.

He turned back around to see if he could possibly see the ruins of the wall. Of course he couldn't, but he could see the people crawling over it. For the first time in a long time, he allowed himself to smile. He caught himself wishing it were and mentally kicked himself. Wiping the smile off his face he went back to convincing himself that it wasn't real.

He stood there, in the rays of the sun, and continued to observe. Hours passed, and he found it curious as to why he had not woken from the dream yet. The sound of running feet brought him out of his thoughts.

"Brother!" There was that voice again. This time, not bothering to look at the source of the sound, he ran in the opposite direction.

"Leave me alone! I know you're not real! None of this is!" Prussia stumbled as he ran, but kept on going. That is until a hand grabbed his arm and pulled him into a hug.

"I am real, Prussia," The voice said calmly. "I won't leave you."

With those words, Prussia broke down in his brother's arms. He buried he face in the tall man's shoulder and cried until he was exausted. Shakily he pulled away from the comfort of the arms and looked into his face.

"What proof do you have that this isn't a dream?"

"Only you can figure that out," Germany stated.

"I want this to be real, but what if I wake up at Russia's house?"

Germany pulled his small, older brother into another hug. The blonde was shocked. He was too small. Too skinny. Sighing, he whispered, "I promise that this is real."

Prussia seemed to believe him and smiled again. "Thank you, West."

The blonde smiled and picked up the weakened former nation. "Let's go home." A tear of joy rolled down Germany's face. They were finally reunited.

I had been seeing a lot of pictures about the Berlin Wall, and so I was inspired to write about it.

I hope you like it!
