I burning down the road across Texas. Streams of sweat ran down my face despite the blasting fan and open windows. I crank up the music in a vain attempt to drown out some of the rushing wind. This thousand dollar piece of junk car with no AC and half blown out speakers still manages to tear down the empty highway at 90 miles per hour. The car, the iphone with no data, the clothes in the trunk, and the cassette/ipod adapter are all I have to my name. I'm content with this.
I was born in New York City, but I could never deal with that type of life, so I left. I first left when I was 18 just after finishing high school. I left my mom but I still call her every so often just to let her know I'm doing alright. She worried at first, but she seems to have accepted my lifestyle even if she doesn't necessarily approve of it. I first set off to the south following the east coast.
Every once in awhile I settle down for a little bit. I found jobs in Florida and Texas for a while in small coastal towns and for a little bit I was at ease, but it never lasted. After turning 22 this year I decided it was time to make the jump to the west coast. Today I'm on my way to California.
I've always loved the ocean and the road. Gazing down this long empty stretch of asphalt always sets my nerves on fire and exciting me into an adventurous frenzy and sets me running. The ocean, though, holds in itself all the adventure I need. It brings me peace, at least for a moment.
The sun chariot swings low towards the horizon before I reach the border into New Mexico. Shortly afterwards I pull off the interstate to find a lonely place to sit on my trunk and watch the sun drop below the horizon. Far off in the west the light still shines on my destination but I will never reach that moment. I will have to recapture it in the future.
So, it's a very short first chapter. I may never get around to making more, but let me know what you think. Also, check out my other stories and tell me if I should pick any of them back up.
To anyone who's interested I could really use a co-author to help keep me on track. Just PM me if you think you can help. Thank you.
