Welcome, I haven't written on of these in a while so I'm very excited.
This chapter is a prologue, it hopefully provides some insight to the future story I create.
Faint whispers between two old souls echo through City Hall. A woman's voice more distinct than the man's.
"You're not the same…"
"… I never see you anymore…"
"Well maybe for once you can show up!"
Calmly, "Sam, you're yelling…"
"Yeah I am! I'm done with the crap Danny, I'm done!"
Still in a whisper, "I love you and you know it, please calm down."
"When was the last time you spent time with Tuck and I? How long has it been since you've seen your family? At first, you were really focused on us, the ones who cared about you before you saved the world, but now we can barely get you alone. The only reason I have you in here to talk is because we had to come to this ridiculous gala!"
"You know we couldn't miss it… Tuck would've murde…"
"Yeah if he could get ahold of you!"
The City Hall chambers grew cold, the large room had historical taste with the beautiful founder paintings and flags hung up along the walls. The double doors were shut but the two of them could still here the speeches being given in the auditorium a building over. It's been two years, two years since Danny saved the world and it's been one year, four months and twenty three days since he's began distancing himself from the ones he loved. Not the first time they have fought but the first time they have in a public arena.
"Danny, hear me out. We got an apartment together, right?"
"..Uh yeah, why are you asking me that? I know where we live..."
"Describe the apartment."
"Uh well, it is on the third floor of a building on the corner of Walnut Avenue & Cherry Street. You gave me a cute keychain with your name on it. There is a tiny kitchen and a tiny living room and two tiny bedrooms. The floors have a tan carpet, The TV has a wall mount but it's not on the wall, and we lack a ton of kitchenware."
"Okay well, you got the keychain right. We live on the second floor of a one bedroom apartment. I got the carpet removed three months ago so it is now hardwood. We don't own a TV because you were the one that used it and it gathered so many spiders it was useless. And our kitchen has fully stocked kitchen ware and even a new separate mini fridge for my vegetarian choices."
"Fuck."
"After tonight, you're not going to see me in that apartment ever again. I can't be treated like this, I need somebody present in my life not just another person just like my parents."
"But Sam!"
"No. NO, you don't get it. I have given you everything and slowly you've been neglecting me and I can't put myself in this toxic position anymore."
She pulls out a boarding pass for the local airport and waves it in the air in front of him. Quickly she turns and exits out the double doors back to the gala, tears streaming down her face. Danny sat there in shock, unsure of how to react to what just happened.
The speech portion of the gala had finished and everybody was socializing at the many round tables. The room was decorated similar to the president's formal galas at the White House, pretty and extravagant. Black tie, not the first one Danny and Sam have been invited to but probably the last. What a beautiful event, many people mingling but the room is divided by a slender woman escaping her personal tragedy.
