Alec warily opened the door to his boyfriend's Brooklyn apartment. He had been hoping to relax with his favourite Warlock after a long day of training with his sarcastic moron of a Parabatai. It wasn't that he didn't think the world of Jace but at times the blonde was beyond annoying. What was more annoying was that Magnus wasn't in, he'd had to use his own key.
He smiled at the familiar weight when he put it back into his pocket. When his boyfriend had given it to him he didn't see the point, there were runes to get the door open if he really had to get inside without Magnus there. The older male had told him that much was obvious, but he wanted his Shadowhunter to be able to let himself in, not break himself in.
'His' Shadowhunter. Alec smiled more on his way to the living area.
Magnus had redecorated again; a dark blue suite surrounded a fluffy white rug and glass coffee table. It looked alright, Alec supposed, but he was used to the worn furniture of the institute. This new stuff looked cold and modern. He preferred things with a little more personality to them.
Like the sweet ball of fur who very nearly blended in completely with the rug, staring up at him with his big round eyes.
"Why hello there Chairman Meow, has he left you all alone again?" Said the Shadowhunter in a voice reserved only for animals and small children. He sat down on the floor beside the tiny creature and within seconds the Chairman had jumped into his lap and begun purring.
"I'll bet he didn't even remember to feed you, right? Poor baby..." He stroked his fingers lovingly through the soft fur. Magnus' cat was so cuddly and well behaved, not at all like Church. Church was inclined to bite anybody who didn't come baring treats. Chairman Meow just purred and mewed happily whenever you spoke to him.
"Yes? You tell me all about it..." Alec sighed playfully, lifting the kitten to face him nose to nose. The white fluff ball cocked his head to the side in confusion which made the teen holding him grin. He was just so cute!
Somebody behind Alec cleared their throat, which would have made a normal person jump out of their skin. Luckily he had been trained to expect surprises.
"I did feed him actually." Magnus pointed out, coming to sit behind his boyfriend, so he was between his legs, and rest his chin on the younger male's shoulder.
Alec put the Chairman back into his lap and turned his head to kiss Magnus' cheek.
"I didn't hear the door."
"I wasn't out. What was the goofy voice all about?" Magnus chuckled into his ear.
Alec stiffened slightly, realising he'd been caught 'red-handed', but he soon relaxed again.
"What was actually using the word 'goofy' all about?" He smirked back.
"Oh he makes a comeback? Touché, little Shadowhunter." Magnus said, sounding entertained as he was surprised. His boyfriend leaned down to whisper into his kitten's white fur:
"Looks like we win this round, Chairman Meow."
So, I read a Q and A response where Chairman Meow said he misses Alec because Magnus ignores him. That made me want to write something where Alec spends a little time with the kitten and this popped out.
