Hey! So I'm working on a McKono story right now, but I thought that until I get atleast 5 chapters done I will be posting one-shots. So if you have more ideas for one-shots please review. Thank you.

He watched as she walked towards her office. She sniffed lightly then rubbed her cheek with the heel of her hand. She glanced up towards his office breifly but he caught sight of her red puffy eyes. After working with her for over 3 years now he had only seen her cry 2 times. Once at Chin and Malia's wedding and when Malia was murdered. He's positive he's heard her crying in the locker room but has never mentioned it because he knows she doesn't want to apear weak. But this is different. This is the third time this week she has been like this.
He goes to her office door and knocks lightly.
"Yeah?" Her voice sounds thick with emotion.
"Hey, uh, are you okay?" He asks.
"Me? Oh, yeah. I'm fine." He knows she's not. Before he can push further his phone rings.
"Duty calls." He says which earns him a small smile.

He stands at the smart table going over the suspects file when he hears her phone ring. He tries not to easedrop but she starts shouting.
"What do you want me to do? I knew from the start this was a bad idea! Chin even told me."
She pauses.
"No it's not just you. It's you and your business. I've tried so hard to help you but I can't keep doing this! Listen, I'm at work I can't deal with this right now. I'll see you later." She rubs her temple with her index and thumb in a circular motion.
Steve frowns as he really, really, looks at her face. She has dark bags under her usually bright brown eyes. Now her eyes are dull barely full of life. Within the last week and a half she hasn't smiled as much. She doesn't laugh, she doesn't hang out with the team after work, and her body seems to be a little slimmer.
He's about to go talk to her but gets inturrupted by Chin and Danny walking in from the M.E's office.
"Our guy has a Nazi symbol on his left shoulder bladeā¦it looks like it was removed but he was able to give us the just of the tattoo." Chin says.

The case ends. Not a happy ending man set his car on fire in a gas station which then blew up killing 2 people and injuring 3 police officers. Steve looked around HQ and saw Kono looking in the mirror putting a butterfly bandage on the cut above her eyebrow, then turning around and lifting up the back of her shirt revealing a big dark purple bruise.
He gets up and walks out of his office.
"How you holding up?" He asks causing her to jump in surprise.
"I'm good. You?" He shrugs.
"You sure you're okay? Not the explosions but for the last 3 days you've been coming in upset. Everything okay?"
She's about to lie and say she's fine, but the way he looks at her, his eyes peircing through her walls, his face showing trust, protectiveness, and love? Her lip starts to wobble and she blinks rapidly trying to get rid of the tears. An unwanted tear slips through.
"No. I'm not okay." Her shoulders shake as sobs wrack her body.
"Kono? Tell me whats wrong." His strong protective arms wrap around her waist as she fists his shirt tightly.
"I don't know. We were doing fine. Th-then he started keeping secrets from me. His brother came around more often. He won't answer phone calls around me. I asked him about it bu-but he hit me."
Steve tightens his grip around her. The bastard had the nerve to hit her?! Her tears have soaked through his shirt now.
"I broke it off after he slapped me, but he keeps calling." Her sobs turning into hiccups. "I can't get away." She whispers just barely loud enough for him to hear her.
"Oh Kono. Listen you are going to come home with me alright?" She looks into his eyes and nods.
He holds her for a few more moments before helping her pack up her things. He walks her out to his truck and then into his bed. She falls asleep immediately. But before he gets ready for bed he has something to do.

He closes his car door as he approaches the front steps. He knocks loudly 3 times.
"McGarrett?" Adam opens the door rubbing his eyes.
"Adam."
"Come in." Steve shakes his head.
"I won't be long." Steves says trying to control his anger.
"Is Kono okay?" Adam asks.
"Oh yeah she's just fine. You know for the last 3 days she come into HQ upset. Tonight she told me why." Steve takes a step closer.
"Whoa, I didn't mean too. I was caught in the moment. Plus she kept on yelling and fighting with me. She deserved it." Right as those words leave his mouth Steve punches him.
He gets knocked to the ground holding his jaw.
"I've known Kono longer than you. I know she didn't deserve to get hit, but you did. Have a nice night." He turns to walk away but before he does he says, "Oh and if you call her or contact her in any way, just know, you'll come out with more than a busted lip." And with that he gets in his truck and drives to his house.

He quietly made his way upstairs and finds Kono curled up on his side of the bed. She's hugging his pillow tightly against herself. Almost like it's a lifeline. Like it's the only thing keeping her grounded. He smiles and quickly changes for bed grabbing two pillows and a blanket from the closet and trying to make his way out to the couch with little noise.
"Steve?" He hears her sleepy voice say just as he is about to head out of his bedroom door.
"I'm right here." He whispers walking over to her. He brushes back her hair.
"Stay?" He stares at her for a moment and then promtly drops the blanket and pillow and scoots in next to her on his back. She smiles and cuddles up next to him. His arm protectivly wrapped around her shoulders while her leg drapes over his and her arm draws random patterns on his chest.
"Always." He whispers kissing her forehead.
"Thank you." She slowly drifts off to sleep.
For the first time in a long time his life is starting to feel normal. He looks down at the beautiful woman sleeping in his arms and smiles. Kissing her forehead one last time and holding her hand on his chest with his he finally falls into a deep, restful sleep.
