well this challenge was inspired by the 6th book, when George met a muggle girl who thought his card tricks were "just like magic!" so…

enjoy.

Disclaimer: I (unfortunately) do NOT own anything that is from harry potter.

Dang.

Just Like Magic

Danielle was bored. She stood at the checkout counter, smiled politely at the customers, (not that there were many), and secretly wished for death.

Or just her break, whichever one came sooner.

She was doodling on a piece of paper when an attractive boy, or rather, man, about 18 or 19, with red hair, brown, mischievous eyes, and an impish grin walked through the door and straight up to the counter.

Dani smiled amiably, shoved her paper to the side and said politely, "May I help you?"

The man's grin widened. He put his elbows on the counter and rested his chin in his hand. "George. But you can call me Jorge" (A/N: pronounced Horhay)

Dani raised an eyebrow and said, "Danielle. You can call me Dani."

He pursed his lips contemplatively and Dani tossed a sheet of thick black hair over her shoulder. "Do you need something, Jorge?"

"how would you like to see a magic trick?" George said suddenly. He held up a pack of cards and gave a small smirk.

Dani looked around the near-empty store. The only people there were about 94 and were bound to die any second, so she sighed and drawled sarcastically, "I don't know, we are quite busy today."

George's smirk widened. "Right then." He spread the cards out on the countertop like a dealer in a casino. "Pick a card, any card." He said in an American accent.

Dani scoffed and shook her head. She drew the ace of spades. "Right. Now give me the card." She handed him the ace, bemused, and he threw it behind himself, onto the floor. He handed her the deck or cards. "Check and see if your card is in there." He said, nodding at the deck, and wearing a satisfied smirk. She looked through the deck, counting 51 cards and no ace of spades. She shook her head, amused. "Sorry. I don't think your trick worked very well." He lifted an eyebrow, the smirk set more firmly upon his face. His eyes twinkled and he tapped the deck twice with what appeared to be a magician's wand.

"Check again."

She shook her head disbelievingly and accepted the deck back.

Every single card was the ace of spades. And there were 52 cards.

Dani stared up at George in astonishment (he was rather tall) and he chuckled. "That was… That was brilliant! Like magic!" she exclaimed, her face lighting up. He found this extremely amusing, throwing his head back and laughing heartily.

"Well, Danielle, sorry to disappoint you, but there's no such thing as magic."

Dani smiled her first real smile all day and rested her elbows on the counter, leaning her chin into her hand.

"do it again."

George smiled.
