Kagome followed Kikyou's shinidamachuu into the swamp knowing they would lead her to her rival. As she neared the woman, she felt her stolen soul calling to her and the soul that lived in her trying to draw it back.
"You are not the one I called for," Kikyo said to Kagome, her voice dripping with disdain.
"But I am the one who answered," Kagome replied, knowing Inuyasha was away. "You see, I am tired of always struggling with Inuyasha over you, Kikyo. Had it not been for Urasuai tearing apart my soul you would not be happening. Then I had a realization. I am not your reincarnation but you are my preincarnation. You are the imperfection that was before me. You are not the one who is supposed to be here with him now. I am. Otherwise my falling through that well would never have happened. I never would have set him free."
Before Kikyo could move Kagome knocked an arrow and let it fly. As it sped through the air the energy surrounding the arrow became stronger. Kikyo was purified upon impact, and Kagome's lost soul came rushing toward her, hitting her square in the chest. Her head flew back and her arms dropped to her side as she was lifted off the ground, surrounded by energy. As she was settled back on her feet Kagome caught her breath.
"So much better," Kagome thought to herself, a wicked smile curling across her face. "In more ways than one."
