Disclaimer: If i owned X, things would be a hell of a lot weirder.
The two Kamuis face each other on the side of a fallen building, tilted almost horizontal. The remaining dragons battle in the ruined city around them, but the sounds of fighting fade out. This is it – the final moment.
"Fuuma!" the original Kamui shouts, looking down the slight slope to his former friend.
In contrast, the twin star seems almost casual. "It's Kamui," he says. "We've been over this, sweet." He lifts his sacred sword.
Kamui barely has time to raise his own before Fuuma is upon him. Their blades clash, and the smaller boy is pushed back. He turns his sword, and Fuuma is past him. He whirls, but too late. Fuuma recovers first and stabs his sword into Kamui's shoulder.
The force knocks the slender teen backwards. He falls, and it's all the scarier because he's falling downwards as well.
Fuuma follows him, and Kamui has a brief glimpse of golden eyes in front of a dark stormy sky, but then he hits and his eyes close at the impact.
They flash open again and he cries out as Fuuma lands on top of him, thrusting his sword deeper into his body, until he's pinned to the building like a butterfly on display.
"Fuuma…" he gasps, hoping to make his friend wake up.
"Not quite," the dark Kamui replies, almost merry. He leans close, his face only inches away from Kamui's, looking as if he is about to share a secret–
When suddenly a bright beam of light comes down from the sky and carves away a large section of the building, passing within inches of the teenagers on top of it.
Both Kamuis stare, their fight forgotten. Then, slowly, they look up. Around them, their comrades follow their example.
In the air above them hangs a massive rectangle, lines crisscrossing over its surface.
Kusanagi is the first to find his voice. "Um," he says. "Is that… a giant solar panel?"
"And… did it just fire a laser at us?" Karen adds. They all look at each other. Satsuki frowns and whips out a phone, sending a text message to BEAST. The other dragons are too dumbfounded to do much more than stare. More lasers continue to fire in random directions.
Finally Satsuki looks up. "JAXA has accelerated their project," she says flatly. "The panel is designed to collect solar power in space and send it down to be processed via laser. Eventually it will be possible to send power directly to the person who needs it, and even control the weather, but it shouldn't be operational for several years." She tilts her head, looking at the display. "It shouldn't be this low, either."
The group is stunned. Eventually Yuzuriha says, "Wait… go back to the part where it can control the weather?"
Satsuki shrugs, not looking up. "Theoretically it can create or destroy hurricanes."
They digest this information. "They want to create hurricanes?" Subaru asks slowly. They all look at each other.
Fuuma turns back to Kamui. "And these are the people you want to save?"
"I… i didn't think…" Kamui starts.
"The panel is out of control," Satsuki comments, still studying her phone's display. "This one… and others. Every panel currently in orbit, al going haywire." She taps a few keys. "If i've got a moment, i can–"
Then another randomly fired laser hits the group, effectively destroying the last of Tokyo's kekkai.
And then everyone dies.
A/N: Yes, solar-powered space lasers are a thing, or at least they will be by 2016. JAXA (aka the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency) is one of several companies developing them. Another, called Solaren, hopes to be able to use it to "manage" hurricanes. Look it up.
Also, it's been a while since i've read the last few volumes of the manga, and i haven't seen the movie or the tv series yet, so i hope i didn't put anybody in who wasn't supposed to be there or something like that.
