Shippo carefully calculated his next move as he looked threateningly at his nemesis sitting across from him on the floor of Kaede's hut. Inuyasha was outside sleeping in a nearby tree and Kagome, Sango, Miroku and Kaede were asleep on their futons. Therein laid the problem: not drawing Inuyasha's attention or waking his sleeping companions while attempting to conquer his foe. Shippo continued to stare down his opponent, his mind working hard to find a way around its barrier. He sighed in frustration.
Had he not been so greedy earlier in the evening he wouldn't be in this predicament. It all started with a box of Pocky Kagome had brought back from her era for him. She said he was old enough to learn to control himself and not eat all the candy at once, and had explained this box had to last him 3 days before he would be allowed to have another. Much to Shippo's dismay it hadn't lasted 3 hours. He had unwrapped the crinkly cellophane and ate his first piece, savoring its unique sweetness. He had tried to pace himself, only eating one piece every so often. Next thing he knew the box was empty before everyone had even discussed what direction the group would be headed in for the next jewel shard come morning.
Now Shippo sat in the dark of Kaede's hut, in the middle of the night, staring at a second box of Pocky stolen from Kagome's backpack, trying to figure out how to open the cellophane wrapping without disturbing anyone. Stupid, empty Pocky box. He turned his head slightly to glare at the burnt remnants of it in the fire pit. If the box hadn't run out of his favorite treat he wouldn't be in this situation right now.
Shippo growled at the cellophane.
