Kagome had been traveling with Sesshomaru and Jaken for the better part of two weeks, and every day it was getting colder. It seemed no matter how many layers of clothes she put on the wind managed to find its way through the material, chilling her to the bone. She had stopped trying to talk to the daiyoukai some time ago, realizing no matter what she said he would not converse with her. The nasty little kappa had absolutely nothing nice to say about anyone or anything so the miko avoided talking to him. In her miserable silence she trudged on, either looking ahead at silver hair or watching the ground pass under her feet.
As days passed into nights Kagome began to feel less like herself. After a day of sneezing and a night of coughing and poor sleep she finally realized she was catching a cold. Looking through her first aid kit she found nothing that would help her stave off illness. She began looking in the woods as they traveled for herbs to brew a healing tea to cure her. At night she brewed her tea over their campfire and burned her used Kleenex. After a week of doing her best to keep up, she finally had to tell Sesshomaru she was unable to travel farther. Settling into an abandoned hut, Jaken complained while he made the fire, Kagome settled into her sleeping bag and Sesshomaru hunted her herbs for her healing tea.
During the night Kagome awoke, sitting up suddenly to sneeze into the darkness. Hearing a low growl she stoked the fire, brightening the room. There, in Sesshomaru's hair was the phlegm she sneezed into the darkness. As she watched, he unceremoniously cut the affected hair and flung it into the fire to burn.
