Reminiscing on his life, Kohaku realized he had spent so little time with his older sister. When they were living in the slayer village it seemed they had all the time in the world. That is, until Naraku entered their life, forcing him commit an unspeakable sin by killing his comrades and family. Under Naraku's orders their village had been destroyed and he was forced to forget everything he had ever known. Mere months ago his life had been destroyed.
Because he couldn't remember Sango, Kohaku couldn't understand why she would call his name every time she saw him much less why she sounded so desperate when she did. As time went on he remembered more and more, eventually remembering her. It bothered him when he had to leave her to follow Naraku, then Kikyou, but it could not be helped. He had a mission, just like everyone else: to defeat Naraku.
Much to everyone's relief Naraku was now defeated and life could progress. After five years his friends had married and children had been born. Sitting on Sango's porch watching his nieces and nephew play with the silver haired hanyou child he realized, not for the first time, how precious life was. He felt pride they had all been able to work together to save the world from such horrible evil. He was grateful he was part of an effort to preserve the beauty of the world. He felt blessed he had been able to give something to his family and friends only 6 other beings could lay claim to. He was able to give them the world.
