My seconed favorite author is Marianne Curley. While re-reading Old Magic, I came across a bit where they get questioned by some cops about the earthquake. It's probably a sign of obsession that my mind jumped to Scully and Mulder. I know the timelines are a bit off, but let's say this is happening during the first season of X-Files.
Dana Scully frowned as she made her way down to the office hidden in
the basement of the FBI building. Her friend Lilly Petoria had called her early that morning with a troubling case.
"Morning Mulder."
Her partner, Mulder looked up from the x-rays of some animal called a
Snorcack. She didn't even want to know.
"Morning Scully. Anything interesting happen to you? You look shaken up."
"Not much. Just a call from an old friend."
She set her bag down and tried to concentrate on the file she was catalouging.
"Well, did something spooky happen to your friend?"
She gave up and turned to Mulder.
"Her daughter said somethings been happening at her school. Something with the weather."
"What kind of weather?"
Mulder looked like a kid on Christmas.
"Freak storms...there was a earthquake in a cafe that was strong enough to-"
"Crack the celing, but no other buildings felt anything?"
"Yes. How did you know?"
He was rifling through a filing cabinent.
"It's happened before. Unexplained storms, earthquakes, floods. Always isolated to a small area."
"Do you know what it is?"
He opened a flie from near the back.
"It's probably a kid. Doesn't know what they're doing. Back in the day,
it was witchcraft. Fear of getting burned at the stake made people
paranoied. They would push away any hint of ESP, or-"
"Magical mind controlled weather?"
Scully finished with a wry grin.
"Exactly."
She rolled her eyes.
"In any case," he continued, "It's worth checking it out."
"That might prove difficult."
Mulder paused in putting his jacket on.
"How so?"
"Mrs Petoria lives on Ashpeak mountain.
In Australia."
Please R&R. And didja catch the HP reference? ;)
