America listened proudly as his President made his speech to the citizens of Berlin. Germany stood next to him, quietly soaking in the man's words. America was almost literally hopping up and down with excitement, though Germany wasn't really sure what this speech would change. Though the German was still skeptical, he listened.

The speech was passionate, inspiring. It held the promise that America would help. America, the courageous hero, would help take down the Soviet Union and the wall that ripped the city in two. America would help Germany like he'd helped Japan, and all would be dandy. Germany was still skeptical through most of it, but by the end of the speech, the proud German felt a glimmer of hope.

"Ich bin ein Berliner!"

Wait.

Hold up.

Ich bin ein Berliner.

I am a doughnut.

The crowd went wild.

Germany's hope was crushed.

Author's Note: I'm aware that what JFK said really does translate to "I am a Berliner." I just like having fun. :D
