It was warm that evening. Sitting next to the fire, listening to the Christmas tunes playing on the radio. The couple cuddled up against one another on the crimson couch, not bothering to turn on the lights. The room was perfectly illuminated by the Christmas tree and the fire that crackled in front of them.
Alfred hummed along to the songs. Arthur did not really care for the songs nor the radio that they were coming from, but he enjoyed listening to Alfred sing them. Well, in this case, he could not really hear it, but he could feel a vibration in Alfred's chest as he hummed. Arthur enjoyed that too.
They were not aware of the time, nor what needed to be done. All that really mattered was the other.
"...Alfred," Arthur yawned, "You know it's going to snow heavily in a minute. If I'm going to go home, then I should go now or else I'll get trapped in the snow."
Alfred's eyes narrowed and he moved his arm up to where it was resting around Arthur's waist. He pulled the smaller male closer, reciving a yelp as a response from the other. He leaned down to kiss his forehead.
"... I'm not leaving today, am I?" Arthur sighed in defeat, nuzziling up into the American's neck. "It's not like I'd want to."
"Hm~?" Alfred hummed again. He reached his right hand over to the other's left, stroking it a few times.
Arthur sighed contently and took hold of his lover's hand, only to have Alfred's hand dominate and take hold of Arthur's hand completely.
"Hey..." Alfred stroke Arthur's hand with his thumb, "...I think it'd be better with a ring there."
There was an odd silence as Arthur held in a breath and felt his heart skip a beat. "...What? What do you mean...?"
Alfred wasn't really sure what he had suggested himself. "I just think... It'd be better if you had a ring here." He lifted their hands to give an example of what he was refering to.
Arthur slid back to look at Alfred, and locked gazes with the other.
"Was that... some kind of proposal?"
"...Sure, why not?"
" 'Sure'?"
Alfred laughed. He had remembered that he had bought a ring a few months earlier just in case. It wasn't that he wasn't sure- they both knew. They both had it set in their minds that they would marry one day. They just... never knew when would be the right time.
"Hold on, lemme go get something," Alfred got up and excused himself. It felt a little cold without the other, but he payed no heed to that as he ran upstairs to his bedroom. He glanced at his desk, and yanked open the little handle to the second drawer. He smiled as he noted the little black box that was underneath a few letters, and he snatched it up and stuffed it in his pocket. He felt his heart race as he raced downstairs and sat back down next to Arthur.
"...well? What?" A pair of green eyes stared up at him. Alfred chuckled.
He took Arthur's hands in his, and stood up.
"Artie," he took a breath, "I think you're smart, funny, and very sarcastic. You're also there when I fall, and there when I get up. You don't take shit from anybody, especially me. You're a strong, independent person who follows what they believe, and I can look up to a person like that. You're a beautiful person, inside and out. I look foward to seeing your green eyes lighting up a room and your smile welcoming me into your world. You are my world, Arthur, and I want to wake up to your smile everyday and hear your voice tell me goodnight every night. I love you, Arthur, so," he took another breath and got on one knee,
"Will you marry this twit?"
What Alfred wasn't expecting, however, was to see Arthur looking down at him with tears at the corners of his eyes. He smiled and leaped at Alfred. "I can't believe it; you're actually romantic. Yes, you git." He laughed.
They laughed together, embracing each other.
