Lies At Sunset
She stared at the sunset and blinked back the tears that came unbidden into her eyes. His strong arm that was around her waist made her feel extremely secure but she knew at this moment that she was anything but secure. Lola knew despite their struggles and difficulties that she loved Stephane. She loved him enough to lie to him.
Lola felt the gentle breeze on her neck and closed her eyes, enjoying the moment. She felt Stephane slip his fingers into hers. She turned towards him to see her son John bouncing happily on his right knee. Stephane smiled at her.
"I hope to make you happy Lola. I promise I will right the wrongs and hurts I have caused you in the past. I have changed and only want to love you." he said softly.
Lola lay her head on his shoulder and smiled. Even if she succeeded in her plan she knew that this would be her last sunset with her small loving family. If she succeeded she would spend the rest of her life being hunted and constantly on the run. She would never be able to call anywhere home again. If she failed to kill the queen her life would be forfeited and she would be called a traitor.
"I love you Stephane" she said said passionately.
This time she allowed the tears to fall freely down her face.
