IMMENSITY
Orihara Izaya was a lonely man.
And he wasn't complaining, no. In fact, he was kind of proud to say he loved the whole humanity, because loving everyone was the same as to love nobody. His love was big and infinite as the blue sky, nothing could ever surpass it. He didn't play with people, it was people who decided what to do with the resources Izaya put to their disposition. They contradicted themselves and they originated the games Izaya enjoyed observing to. He only watched, he had never obliged anyone to do a thing.
Yes, his love was big and infinite as the blue sky.
Nevertheless, he had to admit It was easy to get bored in the middle of such Immensity. He was alone in the love of heaven and, though he liked that freedom, there were times he needed chaos. It was beautiful, chaos. It was a jumble of sensations and experiences, it was disorder, it was movement, It was blood and agony.
And agony was love.
Those thoughts had invaded his head the day he met Ryuugamine Mikado, the day those pupils that were big and infinite as the blue sky got crimped with his scarlet eyes. That is Immensity itself, said a voice inside his head, which was banished immediately by the informant. His ego couldn't tolerate that kind of thoughts.
But, the way he sunk in those blue fireflies when Mikado took his mask off! The boy looked like the average student, but secretly he yearned for more… He was intelligent and curious, and those were two primordial qualities for Izaya. He's inferior to me, very unexperienced, would say the voice of his mind, and he would smile to that.
He would smile.
But the smile became a grimace the day he understood the Immensity of Mikado's eyes were due to the innocence he had lost already.
Mikado's mediocrity was the uniform mix of everything that made him human. He was a mix of good and evil, of warmth and coldness, of sweetness and bitterness, of prudence and madness… Mikado was the middle point of everything. Mikado was Immensity itself.
"Orihara-san, you don't know what love is," said the boy one day, when he had said (as always) he loved humanity more than anyone.
He stared Izaya with pure eyes, calm as a summer night.
"Oh, of course I know it, Mikado-kun," hummed the informant, while surrounding the boy and bringing his face close to his, wearing a catlike smile, "right here the only question is: Do you know it? You, a boy who just wants to escape from his monotone and boring life to become something greater… What is there greater than love? You proclaim you know what it is, because that makes you feel superior and you're too selfish to accept you'll never be able to love humanity like I do."
He wanted to destabilize the boy, but this latter started to laugh. The informant kept his smile in place, hiding his disconcert.
"Would you mind telling me the reason of that laugh? "He asked with velvet voice, when the other's laugh turned into an annoying one.
"Orihara-san, why do you say I want to love humanity like you do?" Mikado asked, with his face all red because of his effort to ease his laughter, before sighing and looking at him with those blue eyes of his, "While you'll never be able to have a person because you'd rather choose the world, I'd rather give up the world for one person."
Izaya stared at him with infinite curiosity, not knowing what to do for a second. One second in which he felt exposed to a boy who had a gaze that was big and infinite as the blue sky. The Immensity clamored for him, cursing him and wanting to own him, telling him he had found a partner. That was the first signal of the fascination that would come after.
The first signal of his downfall.
