Alone
"Guards!"… "Someone, help!"
His Father lay dying in his arms. He couldn't bare it. Where were those guards? Why wasn't anyone coming to help him? He needed Gaius to be here, to help his father. He could recover. He would recover. He needed Merlin, his stupid, bumbling servant, to tell him everything would be fine, to tell him things would go back to normal. He hated his birthday. Arthur had never felt so alone before.

He killed him! The old man with the most stupid name killed him! His father, dead on his bed at the hands of a sorcerer. He shouldn't have let him use magic. He knew something was wrong. Both of his parents, now killed by the hand of a sorcerer. He never felt more alone before. Gods, he was so angry. Dragoon-The-Great did not keep his word. He had just proved that all magic was evil.
Now he had to take over the Kingdom, and he wasn't ready for that power yet. He couldn't, there was so much more his Father needed to teach him, and now he couldn't. Tears filled his eyes, and he did nothing to stop them.
Was Merlin asleep? He was staying so still. Had he died to? Another pang at his heart, he couldn't be alone, he couldn't have another person so close in his life to leave him, not now. Not ever. It was too painful.
"Merlin?" Arthur asked. Why was his servant down here anyway – if he was indeed alive- ? There was a long moments pause before Merlin turned to look up at him. His servants expression looked tired, and his eyes were red.
"It's a new day." Arthur stated. Merlin didn't react, however, he slowly stood up. His back was straight and he looked Arthur in the eye.
"What are you doing down here?" Arthur asked.
"I wanted to make sure you didn't feel alone." Merlin stated. Arthur felt another pang at his heart, but this time it was filled with warmth and he couldn't help but smile at his servants' answer.
"I've never had such a loyal friend." Arthur smiled. "Are you hungry?"
"I'm starving." Merlin smiled.
"I'm sure the cooks will make us some breakfast." Arthur smiled as Merlin sniggered.
As they walked up the stairs, Arthur knew he would never be alone. Merlin had just proved that.
