Legolas sleeps peacefully in his bed in the Palace of Mirkwood. Outside,
storm clouds gather over the Misty Mountains. There is a scent of rain on
the air drawing the guards into a drowsy stupor until they finally fall
asleep. A dark shape flits from shadow to shadow between the flickering
fires. The dark form leaves a wake of song behind him.
The Palace guards are sleeping
Their fires burn into the night There's a threat of rain on the dark horizon And all that's left is a quarter moon of light
The figure skirts around a precipice near the moat. He removes something from his shoulder. He tosses it up and it sticks in the stones by Legolas' window. He begins to scale the wall.
He climbs up through the darkness
No weapon but his surprise The greatest thief in Middle Earth Enters the room where an Elven Princeling lies
Legolas awakens to the sudden touch of hands on his bare chest. He begins to scream, but a kiss holds the noise inside him.
All your being your pretty body
This is my work on such a night There's a storm coming over the mountains I'll be gone long before the morning
Song fills the room though no one is singing.
After the rain has fallen
After the tears have washed your eyes You'll find that I've taken nothing, that Love can't replace in the blink of an eye
Legolas feels soft hands exploring his body, touching him insistantly, but kindly.
He was gentle as the night wind
As one lover had been before And the rings he wore for his bride Slipped from his fingers and fell to the floor
Legolas finds himself pleading with the stranger of the night,
Take me with you take me with you
Before my lonely life is set I've been promised to another To an Elf I've never even met
The stranger cups his hand a round Legolas' jaw, and tilts his head to that Legolas' blue eyes stare into his grey. Legolas hears more singing, but this time it seems to come from the stranger's eyes and reverberates in Legolas' mind.
After the rain has fallen
After the tears have washed your eyes You'll find that I've taken nothing, that Love can't replace in the blink of an eye After the thunder's spoken, and After the lightening bolt's been hurled After the dream is broken, there'll Still be love in the world
Tears spring to Legolas' eyes for all his broken dreams, and especially his broken love - Aragorn. One thousand years had passed since Aragorn's death. One thousand years of dreaming of the past. One thousand years of slavery to his broken dream. Aragorn had broken that dream when he married Arwen. The stranger hugs Legolas to his chest, stroking his long blonde hair, trying to comfort the Elf. As Legolas' tears subside, the stranger lifts the Elf's head and kisses him. A smile tugs at the corners of Legolas' mouth. He takes a deep breath and catches the scent of moss mingled with smoke, bark and sweat - smells of the outdoors. The mixed scent is one Legolas knows, for it is the scent he associates with Aragorn. Legolas looks once more into the eyes of his night visitor. This visitor is Aragorn's spirit. Now clothed completely in white, Aragorn rises off the bed and into the air stretching out a hand to Legolas. Legolas takes the proffered hand and rises into the air to join his love in the Undying Lands. And a song follows them out the window.
